New fuel efficent vehicles coming your way

Post by Sean on 7/29/2011, 8:36 am

Just reading a news article about fuel efficiency. I wonder how much grunt they would have

WASHINGTON/DETROIT (Reuters) - Several major automakers on Friday embraced the Obama administration's proposal to push the industry further away from once-dominant gas guzzlers to more lean and efficient vehicles.

The proposal, which is the result of months of negotiations between the Obama administration and automakers, would require automakers to reach an average fuel efficiency across their fleets of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.

Say goodbye to trucks and RV's.

I wonder what incentives "bribes" did Obama use to get this done. backoff

Sometimes trucks and RVs are exempt from these laws. We'll see what a future congress does with this. Average fuel efficiency across their fleets means that a car could get 90-100 mpg, which would give some leeway for trucks and RVs.

American car and truck owners have demonstrated with their $ for decades that they want larger, more comfortable and more powerful vehicles. The high MPG stuff only does well when fuel prices spike; once we adjust we go back to our old habits. The question is whether we will tolerate the government forcing a lifestyle change.

AMEN. It is only a way to justify the high price for fuel.
