electical any ideas???

Post by gsdmom3 on 7/29/2011, 6:27 am

Yesterday I noticed our CO2 alarm going off. When we went in the trailer the lights were very dim. We discovered a light on in the storage underneath that had been on since the first of the week. Of course the batteries are dead. When my husband started checking the fuses he noticed that the fuse that runs the lights was blown. He replaced it 3 times and burned it out each time. It has been hooked to a battery charger all night and still we aren't getting any lights. I'm about ready to haul it down to the dealer and see if they can fix it. I do have a seven year warranty, but would like to save the trip down there if possible. I'm sure the people at Terry's RV are going to be very happy to see this trailer back! (not)

Was the battry completely gone? If so more than likely one of the plates in the battery collapsed this happens quite a bit on std batteries, i.e. not deep cycle. As for the fuse, were all lights on when the fuse was installed? If so this will some times break a fuse, turn all lights off replace fuse then turn them on & off one at a time, this will also chk for a short if there is one in @ one of the lights.

Thanks! We'll try those things. The batteries were not completely dead.

Depends on which lights the fuse controlled. In our Cat, the power wiring for the bedroom reading lights was rubbing on the slide mechanism below the bed. It shorted against the metal of the slide mechanism. We rerouted the wiring and resolved the problem.

Mike - Thanks. Our bed lamps will not work now. Start the research next week.
