Battery Venting
We are newbies to this and so this has probably been asked but i could not find anything. We have a 2011 Wildcat 28rkbs with 2 6v batteries. They are not vented. Is this normal???

Re: Battery Venting
to the forum. I'm not a battery expert, but I've never seen them not vented. Doesn't sound like a good thing to do. Hydrogen gas is created when charging and is extremely explosive.

Re: Battery Venting
I am not vented either. Lost that ability when I put the 6 volts in. Depends on how you treat your batteries.

Re: Battery Venting
personally I woud vent them as I have worked in a gas station when they were full serve and have seen the aftermath of a battery going boom from being overcharged and accumulating gasses one little spark and boom took floorboard completly out of the truck it was in.

Welcome to the forum. I remember seeing a photo where someone installed vent for a 2nd battery.

I thought it was in FR's fine print that they can change stuff before delivery.

It wouldn't bother them in the least. They are a big corp with high-priced lawyers, they would just let legal take care of it.

Re: Battery Venting
Hatstomper,
That's a good idea. Vents seem like the safer way to go, so, for your own peace of mind, just do it. That way you won't have to worry.

Re: Battery Venting
I don't vent. I have two boxes with two 6 volt batteries in each. The only time you need to be concerned about gassing is when you're equalizing. I just open the front hatch, take the lids off the boxes, and the caps off the batteries for an hour or so while the equalizing process is taking place. Common sense dictates that there not be any open flames close by while doing so. On top of this, the basement is quite porous, so fresh air is constantly circulating. If you ever take a flashlight out at night and shine up from below, you'll see just how porous it truly is.

Porous doesn't sound good to me.
I guess it WOULD allow some air circulation, though. Help keep stuff from getting mildewed.
