Drill your own water well.
This is a great web site. His instructions are detailed and he has some great input from a real life driller and others. Entertaining to say the least.

If you try that in your area, you're liable to hit oil. They could make a sitcom about your new life as a millionaire.
We'd hit limestone in our area.

Re: Drill your own water well.
I'd love to drive my own well in the back yard just so we could have an extra water source for things like the sprinklers, or for when the grid collapses. Unfortunately, most cities don't allow such endeavors, so it'd have to be installed on the QT. It'd be my luck that the neighbors would get nosy and turn me in.

LOL Tater. More than likely hit large chuncks of iron ore and break it.
TC - Good thing about it is, it makes no noise. I have a good friend who just built a new home. It's way out of town and can't be seen from the highway. He says he's going to try it. I'll post back with pics if he does. He says he's going to do a lot of things that never get done, but this one, he may just try.
