Post by Sean on 7/22/2011, 6:29 pm

I want to make sure my tank vents are clear and clean, how do you take them apart with out breaking the mastic seal that seals them to the roof with out damaging any thing Question

I don't think you can if they are the one piece models. I was wondering the same thing. If you do have to replace one, replace it with a two piece model so you can take just the cap off. I have read other posts from people that had clogged vents and I wondered how they could tell and how they cleared them.

Problem being getting a smell when we flush the toilet, thought the vent might be blocked.

Could be other things. If you have the fan on in the BR it could occur depending on how full.

I learned that lesson the first time we went camping. YUK

A blocked vent is also a very likely source of the problem. Hope you get that worked out soon.

Newer trailers are more air tight so if you run the fan and don't have another vent or a window open, it will pull air down the vent stack into the tank and out the toilet. I turn the fan off, flush and turn the fan back on. Or if weather allows, I open another roof vent for better air flow.
