digital thermostat

Post by driverguy on 7/20/2011, 1:03 pm

Hi everyone, I want to install a digital thermostat in the Wildcat due to the extreme inaccuracy of the stock one. Was hoping to get some feedback from those of you that have done this mod as to the pros and cons of the various models you have chosen ie Honeywell, Hunter etc. I don't really need one that is programmable, but maybe all digital models are? I don't want one that is only programmable, I would want to operate it manually.I have read the other threads about installation and such, but not much was said if anyone would do anything different. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken

I installed a Honeywell digital thermostat in my WC, it works pretty good except that you cannot adjust the temperature differential. The Honeywell default setting is @ +-1º which can cause the A/C or heat to cycle often depending on the outside temperature. I understand the Hunter is adjustable up to +- 3º

I put the Hunter thermostat in and seems to keep the AC from cycling as much. The only thing I would probly do different is not worry about the Hi/Low switch, because I never use low fan.

I have the same thoughts as Tracker16 regarding the fan speed. I never have a need for the low fan. I would however put in programmable if I did it again. It would be nice to have it come on in the morning to warm up a bit before having to get up.

Hunter. Only way. 42999B is non programable. 44110 is programable.

This is how I put my high low switch in. Like it better than a toggle. Honeywell is history soon.

I installed the same Hunter programable in the trailer as we have in the house so I wouldn't forget how to run the house one after a long trip - senior moments.

That's funny! Laughing

We still use the OEM. Scruffy talks about putting in a digital, but won't unless the one we have gives us trouble.

With OEM just hated freezing when the heater cycled.

This is a mod I still need to get around to doing. I myself do use the low fan speed setting at night for sleeping.

We didn't have problems with the OEM, but I liked the idea of a more controlled adjustment.

U hit the nail on the head. No problem, more control, less times of freezing or sweating.

As long as our thermostat is satisfactory, we'll probably keep it. Made lots of mods, time to just start enjoying our Cat. I think most of you know our deal with that - until it falls apart or our daughter takes away the keys.

We DO have a few more mods we'd like to do, but at the moment I just can't remember what they are. sunny

Tried heater on Honeywell. Set on 69. Goes off at 71 and on at 68. About 55 here so it might work. Heater does not run to long so we do not hear the weird noise anymore either. AC maybe a different matter. It has to wait 5 minutes.

Is that a hunter. Honeywell says 5. 3 would work 5 does not. When I get home I will time it just for poops and giggles.

Thanks for all the replies. I am leaning towards the Hunter 44110. I will probably also put in the high / low switch because we do use both. Ken

Lean hard. Try adding the switch this way. I used the Honeywell because it is the only horizontal available.
