AWNING COVER
First topic message reminder :
I have wanted to buy something to cover the awning from the sun beating down on the fabric day after day during these hot summer months. Recently saw this and figured I would try it to see if it works. It comes with five four foot lenghts; looks like it will work very well...only time will tell I guess..

Re: AWNING COVER
Don't remember who came up with the idea - or which forum I saw this. It could have been the forum that some of us older members were on before Phillip started this one.
Was glad to get out by the trailer, if only to take some pics. Should have taken the key along and gone inside while it was cool in there.

Not quite sure about your question. Everything in the photos, except for the plastic bottles, is OEM.

Thanks, Bill. I googled rool and slide rool, but couldn't find anything.
Dan, that black thing came with the awning.

Scruffy and Tater wrote:Scruffy was thinking thin pvc might work. One solid piece would be good, Mike. Keeping the sun off here in TX would be a great idea.
We put big plastic bottles on the ends to keep the rain from getting inside the awning. They work pretty well.
As mentioned in page 1 of this thread, the plastic bottles help keep the rain from getting inside the awning from the end.

Glad you're okay now. It's easy to get confused with multiple pages, happens to all of us, I'll bet.

Here's a picture of the old dog with the built-in awning cover....
My friends have a unit just like this one. Back when trailers were built better compared to todays units.

Blue is nice. It's a bright blue that shows up good. If we get thingies, they should be Wildcat blue.

Re: AWNING COVER
I built a similar cover out of PVC for my last trailer. I glued two pipes together and used a band saw to cut them lengthwise; I had one long piece that covered the whole awning. It was a two person job to put it in place, but it worked great. Just had to remember to take if off before heading out. It was only designed to protect the awning while the unit was in storage. I haven't bothered to make one for the cat yet; need to do it.

Re: AWNING COVER
What thickness of PVC? Since you were happy with it, I'm assuming it held up well (didn't get brittle).
Did you cut a long slit in it, or did you have to cut a piece out (maybe a 2" strip) all the way across?

Not sure what thickness, just what ever I found. 4" diameter I think; it's still out beside the house, doing duty now to channel water to my trees. I think I cut it twice; had to experiment with a couple of scraps to get it right; did not cut it exacly in half, but almost. It just sits on the awning; it does not fit snuggly as the one shown above. However, it serves the same purpose by keeping the sun off. I just couldn't forget to remove it before towing because it would fall right off. I'm not sure that commercial one can be left on for towing either.

Re: AWNING COVER
The commercial one doesn't look secure enough to stay on during traveling. Maybe if it had straps that held it to the trailer, but then there would be the problem of storing it when in camp - maybe under the trailer, I guess.
