AWNING COVER
I have wanted to buy something to cover the awning from the sun beating down on the fabric day after day during these hot summer months. Recently saw this and figured I would try it to see if it works. It comes with five four foot lenghts; looks like it will work very well...only time will tell I guess..

Re: AWNING COVER
I think this was mentioned in Trailer Life magazine - either this month or last month. Looks like a great idea. Thanks for the photo that shows how it fits.

Re: AWNING COVER
Could you get some schedule 20 PVC and cut it down yourself?

Re: AWNING COVER
Schedule 20 PVC should be just right. Thin enough to warp it around the awning, but thick enough to stand up to the weather. Even better, you get a custom length cut. I do believe they come in 16' lengths.

Re: AWNING COVER
Scruffy was thinking thin pvc might work. One solid piece would be good, Mike. Keeping the sun off here in TX would be a great idea.
We put big plastic bottles on the ends to keep the rain from getting inside the awning. They work pretty well.

Great idea with the plastic bottles on the ends for water intrusion. I would say that schedule 20 would get brittle from the sun. I had some extra schedule 20 pvc lines stacked up against the house for two summers, I went to cut a section and it just shattered on me. Ended up throwing away the three pieces.

Its worth trying.
I am not sure just how much the Schd-20 pipe will give/bend to slip it over the rolled awning before it would break.

Re: AWNING COVER
Our awning is shot (see earlier post) and I repaired it with awning repair tape for now. This might last for a couple of years (at best) and then I'll replace the old awning. Look into some protectors then.

Re: AWNING COVER
The plastic bottle idea came from someone else. Don't know which forum we saw it on, or if was even a Wildcat. But, Scruffy thought someone had a good idea and tried it. We could take a picture, if you'd like.

Re: AWNING COVER
Buying a new awning with a metal cover is the only way to go when your awning is shot. Keeps the water out and the sum off the awning.

Wouldn't that be a nice feature for Wildcat to have on their trailers.

Re: AWNING COVER
When I added an awning to my other trailer BWC (before Wildcat), it had an aluminum cover built in. It was a Dometic/A&E awning so I don't know why it would be aftermarket. I'm sure it's an option they choose not to install.
Here's a picture of the old dog with the built-in awning cover....

It was a 1991. We outgrew it fast. It had a nice king bed and bathroom upfront, but you had to convert the dinette and sofa to beds every night. We had 3 kids in there under the age of 5 at the time. It just didn't work with a playpen setup and no slide-outs. We sold it a month after I picked up the WC in 2006. The quad bunk house works great to this day. The extra bunk is storage. Good memories though......

Memories. We have some good ones from that little Fleetwing in our signature - also the BeeLine, and 2 Prowlers..... all TTs. Maybe the best are from the Fleetwing days, though.

See this :
http://hmcclub.homestead.com/awning_replacement_instructions.pdf
On page 4 is what the aluminum cover looked like in my old dog photo. It was the 9000 series from Dometic. It appears you can still get it. http://www.dometic.com/enus/Americas/USA/RV-Products/awnings/
This cover would be nice to add if you could order it separately. It would have saved my awning from a tree rubbing when I was navigating a tight corner in a campground.

It would be a bigger problem, you couldn't tilt it to make the water run off.

Re: AWNING COVER
We take the plastic bottles off when traveling. If it rains, and water gets inside, it dries out when we set up camp and open the awning.
Will take the camera out this morning before it gets hot. We've had 21 consecutive days over 100 F. Today is going to be another. I'd rather be hot than cold, but this is going to the extreme.

Re: AWNING COVER
Here are a couple photos. I don't know how Scruffy makes these things. I can see that he cuts the threads off the top of the bottle, and cuts off the bottom. Then I think he cuts a slit down the side, and then cuts the slit wider at the big end. He's out mowing right now. If I can remember when he comes in, I'll ask. These covers blew off once when we had 40mph wind gusts.

You could do anything to them that you can do now. There is a rail. The awning would roll up under the rail instead of over it. U go under no water. U go over it U got water.
