Bird vs Furnace... bit of a grizzly mess.
Flicked the furnace on one morning and it shook the whole trailer. A really haunting screeching noise came from the furnace for a few seconds and then quit. Once the furnace went through its cycle and finally turned off (didn't think of pulling the fuse at the time) I decided it would have to come out. Here is what I found:

Poor little fellow got all over the burn tube:

There was blood & guts everywhere so I had to do a complete strip, clean up and rebuild of the hot side. Here's the burn tube all cleaned up:

Some random shots just in case you are interested... or you pull yours apart and need some reference pictures:

All cleaned up and ready to go. I took it outside and tested it with a battery and BBQ gas bottle before re-install. Worked a treat with no leaks... didn't take any pictures of that bit though.

Problem solved!!!!

Brrrrrrrr. It was cold that day!!!

So sad for the little bird. Scruffy just went outside to check the screens over the furnace and refrigerator. They are still doing what they are supposed to do.... which is keep the mud daubers out - if they can keep mud daubers out, they'll keep the birds out, too.

I know... I was miffed but sad at the same time! What screens do you have over the refrigerator?

These are available at Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Camco-42148-Flying-Insect-Refrigerator/dp/B00192HPOC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310930148&sr=8-1
Three screens come in the package. I think you could probably save a little money by just inserting your own screen between the refrigerator and outside access door.

Might have been some sort of warbler. One that's found in England, I'm sure. We have many kinds of warblers on this side of the pond. A lot of them have yellow on their chests.

31TS,
I bought some nylon screen and took the fridge covers off and hot glue the nylon screen behind the covers.
Works great and no one can see them.

Wow, what a mess. It's probably time for me to start installing some screens as well.

Re: Bird vs Furnace... bit of a grizzly mess.
Last year we took the Cat out for a couple days. Every time we walked around the front, we heard chirping. There was a nest of baby birds inside our pin box. Fortunately, mama rode along, and the birds were old enough to leave the nest. Later, I was in the living room and heard chirping - I looked out the window and saw a mama and babies walking towards some brush. Didn't hear the chirping around the pinbox anymore, and it never got stinky. Hope the family survived. Scruffy took some old fiberglass screen and made a cover for the pin box so it doesn't happen again.
