Lug Wrench
First topic message reminder :
What is it with Forest River? You buy a FW and it has four tires. Don't you think that it would come with a Lug wrench? So I asked my dealer and said that they have never seen them come with one. I tried my truck lug wrench that did not fit. I have a four sided lug wrench and that did not fit. I think I will have to stop by a les Schwab tire center to see if they have one that fits it. Thanks Forest River. Steve

MaxRock wrote:scottz, what are the specs on your rims? Did you maintain the same offset as the factory wheels?
i was thinking if I change wheels, I might look at wheels with a bit more offset to help in getting the tire away from the slide mechanism.

I'm not sure; I think the same. I got them at Discount Tire. Similar to this
I have minimal clearance from the slide mechanism, but has not rubbed yet. I don't think you can offset it anymore because there is also minimal clearance between the outside edge of the tire and the fender. I had to trim/bend a corner of the fender for clearance.

Re: Lug Wrench
Checked mine today, requires a 3/4" socket. Mine are not stock wheels or lug nuts, but I think the stock ones were also 3/4". After about the second re-torquing session, I left the silly lug nut covers off. My new wheels have acorn lug nuts.

Re: Lug Wrench
hi guys. just wondering when do you torque wheel lug nuts? When they are suspended in the air or when they are on the ground? thanks in any advices.

Re: Lug Wrench
On the ground due to the fact wheels will spin if in the air.
But tighten the nuts(lugs) up quite tight before you put the wheel on the ground this will ensure that the wheel is centred properly and the Nuts(lugs) go into the conical part of the wheel.

Re: Lug Wrench
I'm with Maxtor on this one. Learned a tough lesson in the middle of Nevada. Had to drop the trailer and travel 40 miles back to Ely. I am now the proud owner of a breaker bar and proper sized six-sided socket that I purchased just for this purpose. Have used it 2 or 3 times on subsequent Odysseys.

how in the world did you not own a breaker bar and work on old cars ?
Add a short piece of pipe that will fit snuggly over the breaker bar handle and your wife can get the lugs off with no sweat.
