hitch question

Post by matt_12787 on 7/4/2011, 1:40 am

Hello all I am new to the forum. I just bought an 09 wildcat 28rks fifth wheel. My truck is an 04 f250 with a 6.0. I had a quick question that I could not find the answer too. what is the hight from the ground to the fifth wheel hitch when the camper is level?

Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi Matt,
welcome to the forum.

I don't think you'll find any two answers that are the same. There are variables that could make this different from trailer to trailer. One of them would be the size of the wheels - 15" or 16". Another is an adjustment to the springs underneath the trailer.

If you are trying to decide how to install your hitch, maybe you could level the trailer and then measure from the pinbox to the bed of the truck. Be sure the distance from the trailer to the rails of the truck has enough clearance to compensate for turning and for dips in the road.

Also, just for your information - check out this thread elsewhere in the forum. It might affect your trailer.

welcome to the forum Matt.

As Tater stated, there are all different variables to your question, best thing to do is hook it up and see what it looks like, you should have a minimum of 5.5 inches between the bed rails and the underside of the camper.

Dan,

Most places say minimum of 5.5, but, yes, 6 is preferred. I have about 6.5, but this makes my front end a little high, but I prefer more distance, so I'm OK with the camper being a little nose high.

I have about 8 inches if I remember right. Nose is down a little.
