HelpNeeded

Post by carrollti on 7/3/2011, 3:46 pm

I am having electrical problems. My 30 amp main and the 20 amp a/c breaker keeps tripping. Anyone else having this problem? The DW is getting very peterb with this. I had this problem last summer and changed out the breakers. Am I going to have to change them out every year? Any suggestions?

I just posted a similar problem a few days ago with shore power 20A GFI's tripping. My problem was the electric HWH was on (I thought it was propane only) and the draw from the HWH kept me pulling too much power. I switched to 30A service and haven't had any trouble since.

Is there a correlation between the a/c breaker and the main tripping? Is it simultaneously...even if not simultaneously, I might start checking the a/c.

Is it only when the a/c is turned on? If the breakers keep tripping often enough you might be able to play with and isolate the culprit.

I have a meter I plug into a 115volt outlet in my trailer to keep an eye on the shore power. Might be a good idea to see what kind of power you are getting. Also, are you hooked up directly to a 30amp outlet and not using an adapter. You need good input power, especially if you are using an adapter, like going from 20amp, 115volt to your trailer cord. With all this hot weather the power at some campgrounds might not be too high. If you are using the air and electric hotwater heater with low power could cause some problems.. You really need to know what voltage you are being supplied just to be sure it is not low. After that you have a search to find out what is drawing all the current. Might be by turning things off to see what is causing the breaker to trip. I would think if the other breakers in the trailer aren't tripping your problem is low power and/or a combination of units on at the same time.. Of course other things could give you problems like this too, Like loose wiring. Could be loose wiring /screws in the converter. Be sure to have all the power off before checking for loose wiring or screws. Good luck. My bet from here is low power from the campground. Good luck.

My Voltage to the trailer is 120 out here. When the AC is running it is 115. So that is proof that there is a draw on the shore power.
