Moutardier Campground, Nolin River Lake (COE) KY

Post by Glen Schumann on 7/3/2011, 2:42 am

This campground is on the north shore of this Corps of Engineers (COE) lake. It's fairly large with loops A-D totaling 167 sites (81 have E,W; 86 no hoop ups). The no hook up sites are the closest to the lake for the most part. Almost every site has a view of water due in part to being on a slope. Most sites are partially to fully shaded; ours is really full sun althought the website says "partial shade". Many of the campers here are boaters with a lot of large inboard/outboard units. People have been quiet but there have been a few barking dogs. The rules say only two vehicles per site; there are a lot of violations of this rule and the Park Ranger seems to ignore them and not enforce the rule. Here are some pics.

Would you stay here again? I'm kind of surprised that they were allowing more than 2 vehicles at each site.

We have some COE campgrounds near here. We haven't stayed at any of them (we prefer a municipal park that is closer). We do go there now and then just to enjoy the views. We get in free, with our NP passport, and can park anywhere in the picnic area (where parking is allowed, of course). We can't park in an unused campsite and enjoy the view from there - unless we pay the camping fee. We believe that, as we've never seen non-campers in campsites. We're not going to try it as a test. Some of those sites look great, though, and I'm sure we'll be camping there soon. The municipal park is getting very popular.

Yes, we would stay again but not on this site. A non-holiday weekend would probably be better also. When our status is the same as yours (retired) most local camping (MN/WI/IA) will be weekdays. Won't be able to do that while traveling of course.
