First time camping at a COE campground

Post by beartoo on 7/1/2011, 12:25 pm

We sent the last 3 days at COE campground on Gull Lake, Brainerd MN. What a nice campground, clean neat and very friendly. The sites are large and pretty level and the showers were very clean, with plenty of hot water. We are definitely going too go to more of them.

In Texas, I much prefer them over State Parks.

We have never been disappointed with COE campsites. Very clean and reasonable in cost. Camp hosts have always been friendly and helpful.

My favorite local campground is a COE park on Lake Carlyle. Some of their sites have full hookups.

Richard,
We used to stay at a COE at Rend Lake. Very nice. That was a long time ago. We usually were able to get a pad right next to the water. That was before we moved from Illinois. Haven't been back to camp since 1984. We never got over to Lake Carlyle, wish we had.

Yes, the COE campgrounds at Rend Lake are very nice too and I really liked the campground at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park also. You would have LOVED the sites at the Dam West Campground at Carlyle, lots of shade trees and spacing between the sites is great.

We also use COE campgrounds a lot. Really like the price now that I have an Interagency Senior Pass. We are in Moutardier Campground at Nolin River Lake in KY right now; $11 a night for a site with electric and water is a nice rate.

Well, I can't say we'll never get up that way with the trailer. We have relatives in the Chicago area, and don't take the trailer when we visit because there aren't any parks that are close by. Kankakee River SP would probably be the closest, and it's a nice park - we camped there way back when, so that would probably be where we would stay. Wayne Fitzgerrell was a good SP when we stayed there. We've also stayed at Ferne Clyffe SP.

Glen,
That pass is a good deal. We've used it a few times when traveling.
We have the Golden Age Passport, which has been replaced by the Interagency Senior Pass, and entitles us to all the same priveleges. I understand that we can exchange the Golden Age for the Interagency Senior...... I kind of like the sound of "Golden Age" better than "Interagency."

"Golden Age" does have a better ring to it. I just want to know: where is the gold?
