What the heck are these 2 small drain valves

Post by hoofbeat on 6/28/2011, 10:43 am

Hello folks:
Need your help.
I have a 2006 29 RLB. There are 2 small drain valves at the back about under the load center. Had a blow out that did quite a bit a damage & also clipped off one of those small valves. I think I have found a replacement valve but what do they drain/service?!?!?!?!?!?.
Thk's in advance for the help.

Sounds like the overflow and drain for the fresh water tank.

Or the hot water tank and the water line drain for winterizing.
Yea it's just lex pipe stuff easy to find and replace. Just be sure to wiggle it good into the pipe when your putting the new fittings on so it will seat good.

If they are toward the rear of the trailer then Glen is probably right. One is the fresh water tank overflow and the other is the fresh water tank drain.

But most of the overflow pipes do not have a valve on them, at least my 29 rlbs didn't have 2 valves.

But, since you overflow valve is next to the drain valve, that means your overflow is in the wrong place(see SHOOTER's MODS). Its fine there, but you could loose water as you go down the road with out a valve on it.

But, (yeah, another one :o) if you have 2 valves, and both are closed, and you use your pump, I think you could suck in your fresh water tank and crack it.

Could it be low point drains that sombody put valves on them instead of the caps?

I would think they are the fresh water drain & overflow, back in 2006, with a 29 RLBS, my low points were in front of the passanger side tires which had valves on them both.

I don't recall any drain valves in front of the passanger side tires but I will for sure check tonight. I bought this 2006 RLBS 5er new in 2007. The setup tech was not much help on a Saturday close to "Beer Thirty"
Also I want to thank all for your responses & have a GREAT 4th.

Hi Glen,

It was VERY HARD to do , we did really like the 29 RLBS, but DW(I'll blame it on her) wanted something with 2 slides in the read, and the Montana always WOW'd us. They gave us such a good deal, we couldn't pass it up.

But, I'm still true to the Wildcat in my heart..... and will always be here as long as you'll don't kick me off.

Re: What the heck are these 2 small drain valves

Post by hoofbeat on 7/5/2011, 7:26 am

Thk's to Oldelmer1 - There are drain vlaves ahead of the riderside front wheel. I had no idea, all this time I thought it was the 2 vlaves in the back I spoke of eariler. I never did get much water on opening so I set up an adapter so I could blow out the lines with my air compressor. While installing the new valve I discovered that the piping for those 2 valves in the rear is different. One side is quite flexible, this is where the valve was torn off, the other is somewhat flexible & a little smaller in OD size than the other. The ID of the 2 lines is the same. The one that is quite flexible seems to be connected to a fitting at the top of what appears to be the water storage tank. But looking through a small area between the underbelly sheeting & the pipe leaves a lot to be desired. The pipe which is flexible did not have a retaining nut at the top connection & would turn around quite easily. Again I could sure use some help on just what these valves are for. I have never used the water storage or pumping system on this unit as it has always been in a park. This weekend I will hook up the compressor and see what comes from these 2 valves. Will post what my findings are.
Thks again for all the help

Hoofbeat,

The two valves in front of your axles are the low point drains for the cold and hot water lines. These are used for winterizing and de-winterizing.

The two at the rear are the drain and overflow for your fresh water tank.

Thk's for the info. This brings up another question; if one is the over flow should it be valved @ all, or do you fill the water tank until it overflows then shut this valve? The latter would seem correct as there is no way to see if/when the water storage tnk is full
Thk's for all the info.

I leave my overflow open until the tank is full and then close that valve. This prevents losing water while moving to your campsite. Open that valve again once set up to permit air to enter the tank as water is drawn out. This will prevent collapsing the tank.

Hmmm...on our 05 28RK, made in Oregon, there's a drain line with a valve and an overflow line with...well it's an unobstructed hose on the driver-side. Our lowpoints are in front of the steps, door is just in front of the passenger-side tires, with removeable caps on them.

FWIW, we tow with the freshwater tank perhaps 1/4 full. If I know we're gonna need water because there's none at the site I'll fill the tank as close to the destination as I can. I see no need to burn gas, plus the wear/tear on the carriage, hauling water around. Every now and then we'd drain the water, rinse/flush, and add another 1/4 or so. Now it's empty since I know where we're headed and there's water there.

Thk's to all for the info. From now on I will fill wtr tnk with overflow valve open, close when full & open after setup before use.
Again thk's to all.
