Air Conditioner

Post by Boater250s on 6/26/2011, 9:52 am

I have a 2010 28rkbs heading out to the south west wondering if I could get any suggestions or advice about running the a/c. I do have the larger a/c unit. Thanks for your help.

We do okay with our 30amp service and the 15,000 btu a/c unit. Even did fine in Las Vegas when the temps were over 100. We have reflectix that we cut to fit in our windows, and had to use it to help keep the heat out. Now we have drapes in addition to the day/night shades, so that would help. Over 100 though - we'd use the reflectix too.

Occasionally we'll blow a circuit when we have the a/c, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and TV all on at the same time.

We too have used reflectix in the windows when we visit the desert southwest. It really helps a lot in a hot dry climate. Here in Missouri I've never had to use the reflectix, even when the temps get into the 90's.

When we know the A/C will be running almost constantly, we make sure we have our water heater on gas instead of electric.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find lot of great information and conversation here.

It looks like padded/quilted tin foil (imagine tin bubble wrap). Comes in a roll about 2ft wide and maybe 25ft long. Building supply stores have it.

For the larger windows, we cut and taped a couple of pieces together for more of a custom fit.

Here's the only photo I have of the reflectix.

Seems like being in a cave with all the windows covered with reflectix, but it sure beats the heat.

Scruffy cut some notches in the two required pieces for each of the big windows. The two pieces slide together. He was concerned that tape would make them too big to store. Richard, do you have a problem with storage? I think the tape might make a tighter seal, and make them easier to put in place. We store ours under the bed.

All of our reflectix fits nicely under the bed. We have a rear kitchen model so we don't have a large rear window to deal with.

I have to agree it is a bit like living in a cave, but like you said, it sure beats the heat.

U said it yourself. "Seems like being in a cave". IF you have had kids you are a momma. So me and my cave momma will live happily ever after if we put this stuff up.

You could always make her day by doing the job properly and cover the window in aluminum sheet and the inside with wall board lol!
You never know she might like it.
