Cruise Control
Love cruise control. It makes the world go round.
The Ford stand on cruise control is not to use it when in tow haul mode. Most people I know do. The problem I have with it is the lag time before acceleration occurs when I am in tow haul. Has anybody experienced this problem and if so how did you fix it. If there is a fix.

Re: Cruise Control
I’ll use cruise control when the terrain is fairly level, but when I see an uphill grade in the distance I put my foot on the accelerator and increase my speed slightly until I’m at the top. When driving in hilly terrain I never use cruise control because it hurts my fuel mileage.

Re: Cruise Control
Scruffy doesn't use cruise control when in tow haul mode. He does use cruise on level or almost level ground. I suppose Ford has a reason to say not to use cruise control when using tow haul.

I use it as much as possible. In the F-250, Focus, or Sebring. If I'm not constantly braking/accelerating it's on.

Same here. Does not work to well off of level ground.

Re: Cruise Control
I try to stay in cruise/tow haul as much as possible when towing. The Allison in cruise will work to maintain speed on downgrades. On large climbs (well, as large as I have gotten into in the midwest and east to date) I tap out of cruise and manually maintain 55 going up and then resume cruise at the crest for the descent. There are a lot of smaller climbs where the truck will maintain 65 just fine without too many revs to make me uncomfortable.

Since my Dodge3500 has 6sp manual, I cant run cruise and have the Banks Exhaust Brake on at the same time.

On the newer Dodge trucks the exhaust brake can be connected to the engine ECM and you can run cruise with the exhaust brake. If you go down a hill and gain speed, the exhaust brake comes on and slows you down to your target speed. Also the ECM has the exhaust brake come on at idle on a cold engine until coolant temp hits 180 degs if I remember correctly. The engine warms up twice as fast, so it's pretty sweet.

I only use cruise on flat areas while towing. Cruise isn't ment for mountains and hilly areas and your owners manual will tell you this.

Neither will the 2004. Not able to use it on overpasses. To much lag time.

Re: Cruise Control
I installed the Pakbrake on my Dodge myself and it came with the wiring harnesses and all to connect into the ECM module. Cruise works great up and downhills (engaging the exhaust brake as needed) while in Tow/Haul mode.

I use cruise control every chance I get, Maintains my speed uphill and even downshifts going down to keep speed under control. Usually get better mileage on the level if I do not use tow/haul but works better in hills if in t/h mode.

It is great to buy a Dodge,,, just ask Oldelmer1, he can now use the back of his truck for a flower bed, when it breaks down.

Re: Cruise Control
I have an '08 Ford and it works just fine with Tow/Haul and cruise control. There is enough torque in that monster to pull the mountain grades with no problem leaving it in cruise. Sometimes it'll automatically downshift on down grades and maintain speed and sometimes it won't and I have to tap the brakes to get it to downshift. Usually needs the brake on the shallower grades than steep.
Next toy is the Banks SpeedBrake and that'll take care of that.

Re: Cruise Control
Better downhill control with a trailer behind you since Tow/Haul is not perfect.
I consider it to be downhill cruise control. Set if for the speed you want and it'll either downshift or retard the turbo to keep you from having to use the brakes on the downhill.

So it works like an exhaust brake?

You know, the good part of owning a FORD, you don't have to worry about cleaning the bugs off the front of the camper cause the Ford cant tow as fast as the bugs fly.
