One Week Camping in Northern California
Spent the last week at Prairie Creek State Park off Hwy.101 about 130 miles south of the Oregon border. Had a great time, weather was perfect the entire time. Hooked up the Cat this morning and noticed right rear tire flat. So I change the tire, first one I have ever had to change in three trailers (pure luck I guess). Took me about 15 min to change it out, by adding blocks to the forward tire and pulling up onto the blocks until the bad tire was in the air. Then we started home, and stopped by the first town we came to and paid a visit to Les Schwaub. I had him patch the flat (nail) and while there had all five tires valve stems replaced with metal ones. They found another nail in one tire and a staple in another, neither went in deep enough. However, they would have been flats waiting to happen. Made it back safely about 7 1/2 hours later.

If your gonna have a flat, that is the time to have one. Sounds like you caught the others just in time.
Glad you guys had a fun trip and looking forward to the pics.

Glad you had a good camping trip. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
We've woke up to flats twice since getting the Cat. But that was with the OEM tires and/or OEM (cracked) rims.

Ok here are some PICTURES of our trip
This is the best site in the park. Its a pull through and has its own creek running through it.

Mother Natures Alarm Clock Wood Pecker

Elk in the Meadow

Baby Elk

Coast Line about 15 miles north of the Campground.

View right outside the trailer door.

Jet Boat Ride 20 Miles Up the Klamath River.

If you can open the picture and zoom up near the top of the tree you will see a pair of nesting Bald Eagles on both pictures.

And here is a link to the Park:

Very, very nice Bill. Beautiful place with abundant wildlife.
Thats my kind of camping for sure!
I can see the white head of the bald eagle in both pics. Most don't realize what a large bird they are. We are blessed with many here in the mountains of WV. I've had them swoop down in front of us and grab fish out of the rivers while we were canoeing. Beautiful sight to see.

Awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing.
When the founding fathers were choosing a National Bird, Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the Wild Turkey. Glad we got the Eagle.

Bill;
We drove thru this campground last year while camped at Harris Beach in Brookings and didn't see anything we could fit into. If memory serves me the park roads are a bit tight but we obviously missed that great site that you were in. If you have a site number you can share that would be great ! Any others that you would recommend would also be helpful. We love the California state parks but since we upgraded to the cat we have not found any to stay at so far. Seems most were built before everyone camped in larger rigs !

The pull thru site is #33, there are only really two sites that I would really want in the entire loop we were in. The other loop I really didn't like any sites there, that loop would be a little tight on one of the corners so I would not reccomend that other loop. However, on the top near the meadow there are at least six sites I know for a fact you will fit into. We stayed in one of the meadow sites back in September. The only downside is that the loop that #33 is in closes for the winter between Sept-May now due to the budget problems. I don't know of alot of State Parks up in Nothern Ca. that would fit our 28RK. We drove around a few State Parks last week, and didn't really care for camping at them no large enough sites to stay in. (Mill Creek State Park, and Patricks Point State Park).
Its funny you like the Calif. state parks and we just love the Oregeon state parks.

Just showed the DW your pics. Her comment was that we have to get off that darn I5 when travelling down south and see more if it ourselves.

Another great drive is HY 99 in Oregon or the Hyway from Fort Brag to 101. Can not remember the name but remember the scenery.

Bill, thanks for the info, I will mark our campground map accordingly. I guess we love the cal state parks because they bring back many memories from when the kids were young and the Redwoods offered many adventures. We do love our own state parks too and unlike california ours have plenty of large sites.

Our feelings exactly. We made frequent trips to CA when we lived in OK, and wished we had time to get off I-40 and explore old Route 66, but that was before we were retired and didn't have enough time. Maybe next time we go out there with our trailer, we'll go up and take I-40 and take the time to explore.

Dan, I think I would plan on staying in the sites by the meadow, and not inside any of the loops. I think at least 2 maybe 3 would accomidate your 34 footer.
