Third Eye (Rear view camera)
Well just finished the first trip of the season and I promised to post a picture of what it looks like using the rear view camera. I couldn't find my other post that showed pictures of how it looked after I mounted it, but it worked great. Not only can I see exactly what I wanted to ( the wheels on the boat trailer) but without towing the third vehicle the camera works perfectly when you need to change lanes and can't spot someone in your mirror.
By the way its nice to see how many morons follow to close to you driving on the road.

mountianmaxx, thanks for the picture. It is exactly what I wanted to see, and the camera shows perfectly what you need, Just this morning I searched your old thread to see if pics were up yet and then I happened on this thread. For me, this is one of the best mods I have seen.

Two things I'd do. First, I'd tap my brakes now and then with my left foot, just to see if they would back off. Second, I'd have to turn the camera off as the DW would be too nervous, watching how close they were.
Love this mod. Do you have any pictures of how your hitch is attached to your Cat? Doesn't look like the standard junk of wire welding to the flimsy bumper.

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
mountianmaxx, do you have to have brakes on your boat trailer as it looks like a break away cable switch on the hitch
Great mod though, and another benefit is you can see all the destruction you leave in your wake

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
I don't think I have a picture of the hitch, but it is welded to the frame of the trailer. As far as the wiring it is a flat four. No I don't have brakes on the trailer. I really feel this is one of the best mods anyone can do. I even use it when backing into a camp site or up the driveway into the barn.

That should give you a good view of any new roadkill you produce.

Nice Job.
Just wanted to add my word of wisdom. I am always worried myself of damage to any mod that I do so what I would is some how make a bracket from steel or aluminum that would block any and all debris .
As far as Morons, I have mounted a HD DVR mini camera in the qindshield that looks like a radar detector and it will record all that happens up front, like the guy that cut me off doing 110 kms.
Take care let the good times roll

The rear view camera is a great mod. Would like to have one on the back of the trailer, and it might be nice to have one on the back of the truck that shows the hitch and pin box.

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
I have mine mounted just above the rear window, it works fine there, I can see my scooter on the rack and also watch trafic, I can see the car or truck Im passing so I know when I can get back in the lane and I can also see if someone is ridding to close, and it also helps alot when backing into your camping spot, it has a mic on it so I can hear my spotter (DW) yallingh at me when Im to close to something, In her openion, not mine
, but I am glad that I have it, it really helps

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
That's what we'd like to get out of a rear-view camera, if we had one. Right above the rear window would be a good height. I would definitely want a mic. My brother used to like to listen to comments people in rest areas made about his motorhome. Some were quite amusing.

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
Does adding a hitch like this to your frame void your warranty?

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
The hitch was already on there,I just added a couple 2"recivers on the bumper just to help out a little, It shouldnt have anything to do with the warranty.

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
It looks like your hitch is attached to the frame and not the bumper. Am I seeing that wrong?
The receiver hitch on my Cat is welded to the flimsy bumper. The bumper is very poorly welded to the frame. I put my bicycle rack on it once, and it really bothered me how much it bounced. I ended up putting tension on the bicycles with straps to the bumper and that took a LOT of bounce out. Don't think I'll do that again.

On mine the hitch is actually welded to the frame not the bumper I possibly will never use it though. Well see as I get older may use it for bikes when I finally Retire.

I wonder why some are attached to the frame and some to the bumper. Bumper = BAD Frame = Good

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
We've had the integrated frame 2" receiver hitch since early 2010, so all 2011 and 2012 models include it.

I have a 2011 31TS. My hitch is on the bumper and not the frame. If I have one installed on the frame, will this cause warranty problems?

Hmmm. What are the last 5 of your VIN#? I thought for sure all 2011s were from the frame -- there would be a little sticker on the receiver hitch with capacity and warranty info from Lippert Components.
Is it a West Coast model? I'm unsure if they were on the same production schedule as us...
One of the reasons we originally added the integrated frame receiver hitch was because some people had voided their frame's warranty by cutting and welding themselves. As you might imagine, this is cause for concern since Lippert had no control over quality, skill level of welder, possible damage, etc.

Re: Third Eye (Rear view camera)
I will have to ask a Lippert rep for more info on frame warranty with regards to receiver hitches. Again, current models have details right on the hitch itself. The sticker reads:
"Hitch receiver do not overload
Do Not Attempt to Modify Hitch
Maximum GVWR for Towing 3000LBS.
Maximum Tongue Weight 300LBS."
"Hitch receiver do not overload
