First time with new fiver and truck let me down
Well I was a bit nervous about the new fiver but my TV is what gave me problems. Was going down I5 toward Watsonville took off ramp at Santa Nella and went to left turn lane into Mikky D's and truck started to act as if it would not down shift had to Accerate to make it drop down noticed check engine light was lit. Parked and checked out under hood nothing I could see wrong checked tranny oil was OK no burn't smell looked ok. Checked wheels and not hot or anything. Wife in meantime went to Mc Donalds and got something to drink. Left from there and went about 4 miles and started to hear a grinding sound pulled to side of road was runing OK checked Wheels nothing was hot so took off again about ten minutes into drive just before uphill climb started to hear grinding squealing noise turned down the brake controller and it stopped must have been brakes too close on control. kept going truck started to drop speed to around 50 next incline slowed to 40 then next incline 55-60 no problems. then a downhill and another uphill which was not real steep but truck slowed to around 35 now I was real worried but kept going to watsonville about 20 more miles pulled ok around 50-55 and arrived at my first destination. After talking to my brotherinlaw he said his Dodge did something simular and it turned out to be a filter. So went to Kragens and bought a new one removed old filter was pretty black after replacing reset computer. Check Engine light stayed off. Headed off to pillar point on coast about 67 miles and towed OK but not like I would have liked dropped down at most inclines to around 40-45 and the lie meter said was only getting 9.4 MPG
Filled up and calculated milage and was around 12.5 better but not where I would liked to see it. Still have to pull her home and have two steep grades to go up and will have to see. At least the Wildcat preformed well and got quite a few compliments on her. I didn't have any Issues when I brought her home 50+ miles and pushing a headwind at 60 not a whimper pulled great. But after that it had gone into a smog shop to be smogged for the first time just before my trip I still think that has somthing to do with it so I will take truck to shop and have it checked out when I get back.

Could it be the turbo starting to go? The grinding sound has me wondering.

Re: First time with new fiver and truck let me down
UPDATE: We made it home today Truck pulled like a dream big difference so it must have been fuel filter. It went up the first steep grade on 92 out of Half moon bay at 55 mph the only thing slowing me down was a driver in a hundai who was afraid of mountain driving he hit the brakes at every turn and crossing.
after that climb went into San Mateo and hit the San Mateo bridge at 60 not a wimper. From there to the altamount ran great went up altamount no problems 62-65 passing big rigs no problem. So I hoping next trip will be better I will take her into the Ford garage and have it checked out though. All in All had a good trip of around 350 miles on the cat now.

We sure are glad to hear that onetonford. But, yes, it's a good idea to get it checked out.

Could have been a tank of crappy Fuel that left some trash on the filter. Seems like the filter did the trick. I doubt I'd waste money on the shop. Just drive it a few more days and see if it keeps running good. Might be a good idea to change the filter one more time after this tank full if you said the first one was pretty gunked up.

That happens when you try to shift without using the clutch.

Re: First time with new fiver and truck let me down
The grinding noise I'm pretty sure was the trailer brakes I turned the adjustments down to almost nothing and that seemed to do the trick it was still set for my car trailer and the brakes are smaller dia some it takes more power to make them work.
