Slide and electrical problem

Post by firefighter on 6/16/2011, 4:19 am

Back to working on the camper after not camping for awhile. I am hooked to a 30 amp service at my building and also with a new battery. When I put the slide in and out, the breaker trips constantly, I know there are several posts on how to fix that, next on my list, but also when I am moving the slide, the lights dim inside and almost go out. Are the issues related? Any suggestions.

Your battery is low and / or your converter may be going south.

It is a new battery. How do I check the converter to be sure?

Check voltage at battery while NOT being plugged into shore power.
Then check voltage again at battery while you ARE plugged into shore power.

You should see an increase from the 12+ volt range to the 14+ volt range. This increased voltage is coming from your converter/charger. If you see no voltage increase while plugged in, you have a wiring, fuse or converter problem.

Our WFCO 8965 converter is out of the Cat and in route back to the manufacturer for warranty repair/replacement as I type this.

I checked and am getting 12.81 volts with just the battery and 12.82 with shore power. Trying to trace wires and look at fuses now.

What model do you have? That may help us to tell you where to look.

I'm the dummy, I installed a battery cut-off switch next to the battery and I did not turn it on. I feel like a horses you know what!!! But I did get up close and personal with the converter, I checked it out very good and cleaned out the compartment, I had a few visitors in the area, &*$#@#$&** mice!

I am having a similar problem, but I don't blow any fuses. When bringing the room in or out it goes a short distance then stops. You wait about 5-10 seconds press the button and it starts then the same thing happens. You can hear a click when it pump motor shuts off. It doesn't matter weather I am on shore power or battery power the same thing happens. I am not using the OEM charger/converter. I have a Magnum Energy ME2012 inverter.

My need to find the other post on this problem. The metal fuses are over heating. It is some where in this blog.

Might be a link to that solution in Frequently Asked Questions on the main page.

I posted the link and it disappeared. He foxed it the same way my RV mechanic does.

Bob,

Whats happening is your auto reset fuse is popping, and after 10 - 15 seconds it resets. Follow the link that Dan posted and it will show you how lots of us have fixed this issue. Basically, replace the auto reset fuse with 2 new 40 AMP auto reset fuses.
