Oldelmer1's fault.
Ok,,, here it comes:
Tom "the cause of the problem" and I were talking on the phone, and since we both "had" 2006 Ford F350 TV's we talked about trading them in on new 2011 F350's. Well, we both found out that Ford would give us about 22k on a trade in for our 2006's on the new 2011's. The new trucks were priced at 44K, with all the discounts. So anytime I make a "because I want to" purchase, I always look at what else I could buy with the money. The difference in price was 22k. So Ford was telling us, that a new truck was worth two 2006 trucks. Both of us had low miles. We have 31,000 miles on ours. After thinking about what else I could buy with the 22k, I decided I would rather keep my truck and have a Vette, rather than just have a new truck. So you can see it is all Tom's fault..
I really did not need the Vette,,, but what the heck... Life is short.
Now the story gets worse....
I tested the Vette against our 240ZV8 and the 240 was faster
So it cost me another 11k to have a supercharger installed to make it faster than the 240.
All Toms fault...

You are right,,, Tom is a bad influence.
Maybe it is because Tom is so much older than I am...

I love the 240Z! You say V8 in the Z? You can't leave a brotha hangin' like that. What ya got under the hood?
It is a warmed over ZZ3 350 ci. engine. We took it to the Silverstate Race in Nevada and averaged 161 mph for 90 miles. I wanted to put in our FORD 427, but it would not fit without using the torch. The ZZ3 looks like it fits better than the stock Datsun 6 cyl. Datsun should have come out with the 240ZV8 from the factory. I think they would have sold a ton of them here in the USA. It sits further back in the engine bay, than the six, for better weight distribution. With aluminum heads, intake, water pump, weight is close to the weight of the six.
With the supercharger, The Vette made 515.76 hp at the rear wheels, which is 606 hp at the flywheel. Stock it only made 348 hp at the rear wheels. The 240Z puts out 400 hp to the rear wheels. [img]

I love both of them! The 240Z has always been a favorite of mine though. That V8 conversion is really sweet.
Horsepower to weight ratio is excellent on both those cars too.
Thats just too much fun for one guy to have.

Re: Oldelmer1's fault.
I read each line of Maxtor's story with bated breath, waiting for the culminating moment when he would say, "It was Old Elmer's fault, but I bought a Ram 3500 dually with a 6.7CTD." Oh how disappointed I was.
Ah, but one of these days, Maxtor will wake up and realize that living on the dark side (read that as FORD) is not all it's cracked up to be. Someday he will walk in the light and buy a Ram.

blasphemy!!!!!
Maybe if I get as old as Tom,,, then I will need to slow down and buy something slow and feeble, like a dodge. "NOT" lol....Buying a "chebby" is as low as I can go...
The truth be known,,, I am old enough to be Tom's dad, but not senile enough to buy a Dodge.

Mike,
You see, some folks are afraid to drive a RAM cause they will come to realize that all their lives, with all the FORD'S and Chevy's they've owned, that they have made a lifetime mistake and should have owned a RAM. Especially now with the Cummins HO out, Ford & Chevy are going to re-program(again) to keep up.
Of course, Maxtor buying a Chevy, well, the Corvette is in a class of its own.
Of course, Maxtor does still have some time left on this earth, so maybe, just maybe, HE WILL SEE THE LIGHT.... and buy a RAM.

Buy a Ram??? Isn't a ram a goat?
As we all know,,, it is great fun to kid each other about our vehicles. All Three manufactures make a good product, but it is fun to bash our friends and their vehicles.

Re: Oldelmer1's fault.
I've been watching my nieces husband truck shopping. He has a 6.0 ford that just about every dealership has gave him a really low offer for his truck. He's wanting the new Chevy. They do have some style to them but no one will deal.
I'd love to have a Brand new Ford truck , but I just don't have enough mason jars burried in the back yard to buy one.
I have one more payment on my 7.3 ,,,, So looks like i'll be driving it til it dies and start packing away some mason jars for a new used one at a later date.

You might be driving yours for a long time. The 7.3 is bullet proof, so you could see 300K miles.
In my opinion, all the diesel trucks are great. 18 plus mpg and power to spare. My old gas truck had plenty of power, but at 12 mpg empty, it ate the gas. About 8-10 mpg pulling the 5th wheel. With our 6.0 we average 13.3 mpg pulling the WC on level ground and no wind at 60 mph.
So,, your 7.3 is a great engine and should last a long time.

Yep;
When I went into the service I purchased a 1960 Falcon, 144ci six. You would get it up to 65 mph and hold on. This 1960 Falcon is a little quicker. Straight axle, C6, 9 inch diff, spool, roll cage, etc.
mpg suffers a little though.

The 9" rear is about the only Ford part I've ever used. Other than some stock motorcraft ignition parts on AMC engines.
Tough, easy to install lockers and set up gears. I have one in the garage right now out of a Bronco. They are a hot item in the 4x4 world.
The Falcon is one cool ride as well. You have some very cool toys!

Well;
The Vette will do 200 mph
The 240Zv8 will do 185 mph
The Falcon has done 10.26 in the 1/4 mile, but have many upgrades to it, so it should be in the 9's this year. So far I have only used 680 of the available 850 horsepower.
My wife's idea of fast is to go 65 mph.

You would have to ask Phillip about the 7.3's trans. We ordered our 06 psd from the factory, with a 6 spd. manual trans. They are bulletproof, but in hind sight, I should have ordered the automatic. It takes forever to go through the gears with the manual trans. I know the new automatics for FORD, dodge and chevy are all good. Another good reason for buying a truck with an automatic is when we were on a trip two years ago, I got food poisoning, and there we sat, until I got better. The wife did not feel comfortable pulling the WC with the manual transmission.
