Sealing Sink Drain?

Sealing Sink Drain?
The sink in my new Wildcat has a rubber gasket for the drain. This rubber gasket is rather thick and it keeps water from completly draining out of the sink. I removed the rubber gasket just to see how the drain fits with out it, and it sits below the sink line and should be able to let all the water to drain out. Normally I would use plumbers putty for house hold sinks, but not sure if it is the proper stuff to use in the camper. Would silicon be a good choice?

Can you find a thinner piece of rubber? Otherwise, I would think plumbers putty would work fine.

I've looked around the standard home improvement stores and they all are the same thickness.
I read somewhere not to use plumbers putty on the plastic sinks, due to the petroleum in the plumbers putty leaching into the plastic and discoloring it.

Re: Sealing Sink Drain?
I used plumbers putty on my bath sink, in the drain and under the lip for the counter top with no problems.
I probably would not use silicon cause if you have to take it apart, the plastic sink probably would break.

That tub and bath caulk should work pretty good. I don't think it's too sticky that you can't take it apart.

Re: Sealing Sink Drain?
I used clear RTV silicone when I repaired my sink. No problems in 5 seasons.

Re: Sealing Sink Drain?
Putty still has its place. But that place is not plastic sinks, plastic fittings, or pipe threads. Faucets are no longer designed to use putty - most have plastic bases and sometimes plastic bodies that will be eaten away. But the washer/putty system is still fine on cast iron sinks, stainless sinks, composite sinks.

Silicone will should stay flexable enough to get the sink apart without breaking it?
