Mod - Fun Stuff
We like to have a glass of wine with dinner or after dinner now and then. We used one of those nice 6-pack wine bottle caddies that some supermarkets provide for our convenience to carry the wine in. We stuffed plastic bags around the bottles to keep them from breaking. That didn't look very pretty, so I crochet'd 6 sleeves. Each sleeve is white on one end and red on the other. They look much better than plastic bags, and stay neater, too.

I should have had a couple wine bottles to show how nicely they fit. I can always take another picture.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
I used a box from Amazon.com - about 9x12 and fitted it with home made dividers. It holds 4 wine glasses, 4 tall glasses, and 4 short wide glasses. The tall glasses are for milk or pop. The short wide glasses are for juice or drinkies. They don't clink against each other, and we haven't had a broken one yet.
Instead of dividers, you could make cozies. To make cozies for your glassware, cut the tops of worn out socks. You could stitch the cut side to keep them from unraveling. You could also stitch the cut side a little tightly so a glass won't slide through - makes a nice drink cozy (not for stemmed glasses). I've seen some nice wine glasses without stems in Wine Enthusiast magazine. Amazon has some too.

We just buy the box wines. My wife and I tend to go for quantity rather than quality, lol. Actually you can get some pretty good wines in boxes now, and they pack easily in our pantry.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
How much wine do you get in a box? We've got the bottle storage figured out pretty good. Probably no room in our pantry for a box of wine. I've heard it is just as good as bottled.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
We recently celebrated our 50th anniversary (you all probably know that by now.
When our daughter and son invited the guests for our party, they specified "no gifts."
This is one of the non-gifts:

It fits alongside the table and won't be in our way either traveling or set up at camp. Scruffy says we probably shouldn't put wine bottles in it while we are traveling (maybe I should crochet some longer sleeves). The black appliance behind the wine cooler is an ice maker.

Another advantage is when its empty, the box is easy to crush so we reduce our trash volume. Mark

Scruffy is retired from the glass industry. We really prefer glass when we can get it. Glass recycles. The way glass is manufactured, there must be crushed glass in the mix.

Any mod for wine is a great one in my opinion and I'm really jealous of the wine cooler.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
When we travel, we make it a point to visit some wineries along the way and purchase some local fare. Usually, we end up with enough that they send us out with a case box (no, it's not full of 12 bottles every time). The boxes work very well to store the bottles. We just slide it against the wall under the table or behind our reclining love seat and there you go. For glasses, we found 2 thick glass goblets in Canada last year and we use those for our wine glasses. We just wrap them up in a dish towel while traveling.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
Visiting wineries is fun, and we've been to a few during our travels. Wine tastings are fun - we don't have a clue what hidden flavors we're supposed to be tasting, we just like it or not like it.

If you ever get to Asheville, North Carolina, visit the Biltmore House, they have winery also. It's a pretty good tour and even though I'm not a great fan of wine; the wife is, some of it is pretty good.

Re: Mod - Fun Stuff
We've been to Biltmore a couple times - beautiful castle and gorgeous scenery all around. We've never visited the winery, though. We really weren't into drinking wine back in those days. Now that we've acquired a taste for it, we'll be sure to stop by the winery next time we are in that area.
Thanks for the reminder about the winery.
