Cracked Window - Large Window just left of entry door.
Hi, It been awhile since I've been on here, and I can see I've missed a great treasure trove of information. I have a Model T28RKS towable Wildcat (2010) that I've owned since Nov. 2009. So far I loved it and have enjoyed it as much as I can even though I've only been able to get out in it 8 times. I was getting it ready for this year and noticed that the large window next to the entry door has been cracked from the middle bottom of the window to the top. I was just wondering if there was any words of wisdom before I contacted the dealership and/or my insurance company to see what can be done. I appreciate your advice. Bob Brady, Utah

Any idea what cause the crack? Could it possibly have cracked from opening/closing your slides with your door closed? I've heard of windows blowing out so maybe it could have caused a crack.

Did you pay for the extended warranty (2nd Year) ? If so contact the dealer. Jim

Re: Cracked Window - Large Window just left of entry door.
Thank you BobnPi and Jim for your return response. I do have a call into the dealership as we speak (so to speak). I actually don't know how it happened. Because of the bad weather we have been experiencing here I last looked at the trailer about 2 weeks ago, and everything was dandy. Then I was out in it last Saturday showing it off to my 3 sisters. They commented on the number of windows and how big they were, and that's when noticed that the one next to the door was cracked from top to bottom. After investigating it for some time I can't tell if it was a defect in the glass, or if something struck it and cracked it, or just what happened.
Thanks again for your great assistance.

My guess is, something hit it or fell against it. If there was a defect, you probably would have known about it before now.
I would check on warranty first, insurance second. If yur deductible is $500 or more, chances are you'll be paying out of pocket to replace it if the warranty has expired.
You could always call an auto glass shop to see if it's something they can fix before having the RV dealership order a new window. You might even give them the opportunity to bid the replacement; good chance they'll be cheaper than ANYTHING coming from the RV manufacturer. Shoot, since its the big window, ask em how much to tint it while they're at it.

Thanks a lot, TC. Those are great suggestions and I will pursue those avenues of repair. Deductible is $500, so I plan on pulling out the window myself and getting some bids before any replacement options from the dealer. Again thanks a ton. Bob

Every one here always offers great suggestions. Just wanted to say hello to a fellow Utahn and tt owner. I had felt certain I was the only one in this state, eventhough I see wildcats on the road. I to am willing to bet with the crazy weather we have been having something hit it.

Hey Heiner, Good to hear from you! I just don't know what happened, but I guess I could speculate from now 'til the end of time and never know. The thing that bothers me is that I have parked the trailer such that the entry/window side is protected with only a small private walkway (4 ft.), and then the wall of the home. Hmmm?

Vandalism? Neighborhood kids being careless?
Some insurance companies will not pay a claim if they consider the damage to be the result of an "act of God", so a kamikaze crow, etal won't cut it.

Would a crow flying into a window be considered an act of God or vandalism?

Depends on what the bird's intent is. And according to Wm J Clinton, that all depends on what yur definition of "is" is!!
Of course, if the crow didn't see the windshield because it was so clean, you could possibly sue the glass cleaner company for creating a hazard to the crow, not to mention compensation for income and livelihood lost on behalf of the crow's family. I mean, who's gonna bring home the worms and provide nesting material now that Joe crow is deceased?

Dang...maybe I'm the one that's going to have to pay for something other than a new window.

Re: Cracked Window - Large Window just left of entry door.
Well, here's the rest of the story. I had a fellow come out and take a look at the window, and he was of the opinion that this was a stress related crack just because of how it looked and where the crack seemed to begin (at a frame joint and screw to secure it). At any rate the dealership told me this was not "structural damage" so they would not cover the glass. I called my insurance man and asked for a bid. Way below my deductible so I ended up payin' for the damage. $310 (including tax) later, I had a new window pane. Ouch!!!
Now tell me a good way to cover the windows when I'm not using the trailer.

Is anyone giving theories as to why so much stress was created to crack that window? That shouldn't have happened! I'd be concerned about it happening again!
On a brighter note, at least a crow wasn't involved.

You might could have checked with one of the surplus places and gotten it cheaper ? ,,,, Isn't that the worst when you can't figure out what happened to it. Hopefully it wasn't stress related. You'll know pretty soon.

Yup, I'd just like to really know what caused it. No crows though, TC. That's a good thing.

You say it was by a screw hole, could the screw have been over torqued and that would have been the root cause?

Howdy, That certainly could have been a contributing factor. Needless to say, I will be watching and checking that particular window on a very regular basis.
