Fort Wilderness Question
We are planning our fall trip to Walt Disney World. Have any of you had any experience with the Full Hook-up sites in Loops 1600, 1700, 1800, or 1900? These sites go fast, and we've never been able to get one and have had to get Premium (more expensive) sites instead. I checked on-line yesterday, and see that there are full hook-up sites available for the entire time we want to stay this fall.
I know these sites aren't as wide as the newly renovated Premiums. We'd like to know if there would be room on the side for the awning and room at the back for a screen room. The full hook-ups look a lot like the old premiums and we had room. Also, if you have stayed in any of these loops, can you recommend a site that is easy to back into?

Re: Fort Wilderness Question
We have stayed in the 1700 and 1900. When we stayed in 1700 (2008), everything was still forested and we could not even tell there was other sites around us. When we stayed in 1900 in 2009, they had just cleared the brush and ever thing was not so pretty. Lots of kids and pets. It was not very relaxing to me at all and if you went outside, you could see all the way across 1900, 1700, and 1800. Last year while we were in 1300, our friends were in 1800. They have fixed the landscape and things look better. They were on the back side by the dog walk / canal and it was nice enough, but 1300 was much better. In my mind worth the extra money to not have the kids with the training wheels going by every 3 minutes. Nothing against kids, more against plastic training wheels!!
Do you have a link showing the sites with numbers? If so, I can tell you the ones we stayed in and the one he had in 1800 that was nice. Both of the sites we stayed at would not allow the awning due to some obstruction. You could do a small screen room on the sand pad.

Re: Fort Wilderness Question
Thanks moo,
I hadn't thought about the kids with training wheels. The time of year we go, those sites are pretty empty mid-week, but they fill up on the weekends. We were surprised to see that we could get a complete 10-11 days in the full hook-ups.
There are sites that Scruffy definitely doesn't like because of the low areas around the camp sites. If it rains, some of them become almost islands. But there are some nice sites, too. I haven't seen any maps with numbers - the Disney maps don't explain things very well. YouTube might have some videos that show site numbers, but I haven't seen any.
I think we'll stick with the Premium. They are going for about $60 to $62 per night in early November.

We are booked for the last week of October again this year and I will leave you something to look for this time. We are doing our best to stay in the 1300 loop again.

Since you are on the quick recovery plan, head on down this fall!! The end of October is a great time to be there.

Re: Fort Wilderness Question
We expect to get there around Nov 2. We want to avoid the Halloween crowds, but still be there for the Food & Wine Festival. Have been trying to make ressies on-line, but the Disney site isn't being very cooperative.
Our son and DIL will probably be there the last week of Oct, and stay until around the 5th of Nov - so we'll be seeing them a bit while our stays overlap. They will be staying in one of the resorts. I keep trying to get them to stay in one of the cabins, but no deal. They want luxury.

If I were to head in that direction, I'd probably stop at the Crater of Diamonds first. Did they make nice improvements on the CG?

Re: Fort Wilderness Question
I was mistaken about the nightly rate at Fort Wilderness (posted above). The rate for Premium for the early part of November is around $76, weeknights and $79, weekends. per night. Didn't mean to mislead anyone. The rates up above were for full hook-ups or preferred.

Yes, the campground upgrades are very nice and they are booked out most weekends. The addition of the water park for the kids has been a huge draw. I would recommend stopping for a few days on your way to Disney. Tater, you guys could do the same.

Re: Fort Wilderness Question
I think we'll save the Crater of Diamonds for a destination instead of a stop-over. It sounds like a place we might like to stay for a couple nights or more.
