Slideout Gasket problem

Post by jpmccabe on 6/5/2011, 6:25 am

Who can help?
The inside gaskets on my slideouts come off when I go to put them in and out.
They just slip onto an aluminum rail.
Is there anyway to make them stick on better?

Welcome to the group, from your neighbor down the road!
When mine came off around the top of the bedroom slide, I stuck it back on with some leftover silicone caulk. Let the caulk set up. Been two years now and all is well.

Thanks, I will try that.
Is your gasket one piece from the bottom of one side, up across the top, and down the other side?
I was thinking it should be three separate pieces.

Good question...I don't know. Mine came off along the middle of the slide so I never made it into the corners. They stayed on so I didn't mess with it.

My bro-in-law had this problem on his Eagle. He tried several different caulks and it kept coming loose. We eventually decided to lube the outer portion of the gasket where it seals against the camper wall. A very thin layer of white lithium grease and problem solved.

(We did use caulk again to glue it to the slide out rails.)

Good point, forgot I did a similar thing. Instead of grease I used 303.

3M weather strip glue may work. It's meant for door seals and such on cars. Great product. Comes in yellow and black in a sqeeze tube.
