Brake controller

Brake controller
Just thought I would see how everyone felt about their brake controller. My controller is made by Hensley. I had an old style Hensley controller and it worked great. I could apply just enough brake to bring on the tail lights and I could feel the trailer gradually hold me back. As I applied more brake the trailer brakes increaced. Really pleased with this controller. As my luck would have it my controllers display went bad. I was lucky again, my unit was out of warranty. I went for the improved Hensley TruControl Gold II controller but don't like it as much. The new model seems to be more automatic and applies the brakes to strong, if I back off on the gain I don't have enough brake. I can adjust the controller and make it more or less agressive but it doesn't work as smooth as my old controller. We traveled northwest last year with the old controller through Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Northern California then to Montana, Glacier Natl'l Pk. Every thing was great. Maybe I can get the old style controller back. Anyhow, I was wondering what folks thought about their controllers. Thanks for the feed back..

Re: Brake controller
I have an old Tekonsha Voyager that has been in 3 different tow vehicles, as long as you set the level and gain controls right it works pretty good for a 17 year old controller.

Re: Brake controller
I have an old Brakesmart controller. http://www.drperformance.com/brakesmart.html
It works real well as it's tied into the master cylinder with a pressure transducer. I believe all the new trucks have a similar setup now that come with a factory controller. It proportional braking. No jerking like the inertia type.

After looking at the web site it seems to be a great product but the price. OUCH Pordigy works fine enough.

I think I paid around $350 for it a few years ago. It's well worth it.

Re: Brake controller
I had the Draw-Tite Activator for a while.I mean to tell you I hated that thing. It was for a lack of a better way to put it,The most grabby controller I have ever had.It acted like it would not stay set.
Stay away from this one.

I have an intergraded controller now,and I love it.

It was probably the free blue wire tap that convinced you to buy the Draw-Tite.

Re: Brake controller
Built in controller on my Chevy. I thought I was having problems with it recently. Dealership checked it out (for $100) and did a software upgrade. No problems since.

Re: Brake controller
We have been using the Max Brake for about 3 years [we have been fulltiming for 15 years] and just wouldn't have any other brake controller. The others we had just didn't compare. I thought the price a little high at the time but after using it, I realized I more than got what I paid for. Diana
