Re: Remote Water Heater Switch
Scruffy put in a switch for the water heater, but he didn't use that fancy one from Atwood..... which, btw, looks very nice.
He used a standard house switch. You can see it in our picasa photo page in our signature below.
I don't think the water heater is hot wired. I believe it is plugged into an outlet that is next to the water heater. I'm not an electrician, so Scruffy explains everything in a very basic way. I think he wired the standard switch to the outlet with some very long romex... (or is that romax?) Anyway, I guess the pretty switch from Camping World would work in the same way. In the same picasa album there are some pics of our sliding basket in our undersink cabinet, and you can see the wires at the back of the cabinet.

Re: Remote Water Heater Switch
More info - I don't know if it will help or not.
Scruffy used the proper guage Romax for the wire. Here is a picture of the wiring under the sink: http://picasaweb.google.com/ScruffyAndTater/WildcatMods#5305048480746973202
It goes over the plumbing, then down to the floor, across the back of the drawer under the stove, behind the refrigerator, and then to the water heater. Scruffy says there is an outlet in there that the water heater is plugged into.... that's what you connect to. The switch controls the water heater outlet. The double outlet in the cabinet is always "hot" and can be used any time - the water heater switch controls the water heater only.

More - this is the link
http://www.wildcatcamperforum.com/t1551-hot-water-switch
that shows the entire conversation about our switch. I'm sure there are others, but this is all I found. The search engine in the forum isn't real reliable. If it doesn't come up with a hit, I do my own search of all the topics in whatever forum I think I might find it.

Re: Remote Water Heater Switch
Shooter,
Yours might have been the first remote switch mod we saw... maybe before this forum even began. We studied all of your mods in your webshots album.

Re: Remote Water Heater Switch
Are we talking about a remote switch for the water heater on shore power or the switch to kill the gas circuit? I think the OP is trying to put both switches in one neat package. I'd make sure the contacts are rated for 120V/15A before I'd run it.
I'm lazy and just use the breaker for a switch as I dry camp more than do the full hookups. I did, however, install an LED on the gas switch so I knew the water heater was on. It's handy when you get home as a reminder to turn it off to conserve propane.
