pin box adjustment

Post by GustheUsher on 5/25/2011, 1:39 pm

With my new ride the Cat is now nose high, my hitch is as low as it can go. Does anyone know what difference moving the king pin up one hole makes on the ride height? I know the holes are about 1 1/2 inches apart but there are 4 heights to choose there must be some factor to figure out how much the king pin will lower as the wheels are the fulcrum point 20-25 feet back. I really don't want to have to experiment with the king pin I would rather have to raise the hitch if it rides low. I read something about there should be 6 inches above the truck bed to bottom of Cat.

Yes, You should have 6 inches between the truck bed rails and the bottom of the trailer. If you don't have much more than that you might not be able to adjust anymore.

If you measure from the ground to the underside of the trailer near the pin box while hooked up. Then measure from ground to the underside while unhooked and level, you should have a pretty good idea how much to raise the pin box.

If you have 2 U can lower the axles on the trailer. Mine has adjustable shackles.

I'll second portagie on that. If you haven't raised the rear end to the lowest hole on the equilizer Hanger , now would be the time to do it.

The Cat came stock in the top holes, I am changing out the pin box so I will put it up 2 holes then adjust the hitch if I have to, the pin box is in the bottom holes now.

How much would putting the leaf suspension to the top holes lower the pin box end, is it worth that hastle or just raise the pin box up and lower the hitch head down a hole or 2?

If it was me, considering the fact that you have 11 inches of clearance between the bed rails and your trailer, I would start with adjusting the pin box and hitch.
