Mor Ryde
Just scored for $75 (one year old) Mor Ryde Pin Box for the Cat its a 1621 replacement which is a perfect fit. My question is the lady that sold it has no idea of what strength number on the rubber is? There is no numbers on the unit anywhere to indicate what number the rubber is. I called Mor Ryde to find out I require a number 4, if its a 5 will it still dampen the chucking? I understand if its a 3 it will be hitting the stops. The only info is the manufactures tag on the side. It came off a Bighorn, pin wieght 2145 trailer wieght 12,500 36 feet long.

Re: Mor Ryde
My Mor Ryde pin box is:
PART # RPB 71-1716
GVWR 16,500#
and my trailer GVWR is 13,965#
I find it hard to believe that a Big Horn 36 footer has a GVWR of only 12,500#.
Anyhow, I would think you should be fine just the way it is.
Give it a try and see what you think.

Re: Mor Ryde
If you are over 12500 you probable need a #5. There is usually a tag on the rubber but you have to take the pin box apart, doable but not easy, to see the sticker. I have the same pin box, now for sale, with a #4 rubber that was on the Cat with a GVW of 11400. Anyone interested in buying the Morryde pin Box ( 1 year old), I went to a 5th Airborne, let me know.

Re: Mor Ryde
sorry oldelemer...12500 was the dry weight from what I think there was no GAWR or GVWR in the add, with a 2145lb pin rating its dry weight must be up there.

Re: Mor Ryde
Up and down was the problem. 5th Airborne took care of that.

Havn't towed yet soon though (June 11 on vacation for the week) and if it chucks too much might be able to convince DW that I need a mor Ryde but right now she wouldn't go for it. So if you still have it for sale I might be interested in it and I live close enough to you to pick it up.

Is a 5th Airborne a better product.

Re: Mor Ryde
they do different things. the morryde is for chucking (back and forth) and the 5th airborne is for the up and down bounce

Re: Mor Ryde
The folks at Mor Ryde were very helpful and informative, I took the rubber shear out to see what number was on it, I have a #5. James at Mor Ryde answered my question immediately here is his answer if anyone is wanting to reconfigure their Mor Ryde....
Hey Gus,
Here is how we rate our springs.
# 03 – under 11,000 lbs
# 04 – 11,000 – 14,000 lbs
# 05 – 14,000 – 18,000 lbs
# 06 – over 18,000 lbs
That being said, your trailer falls into the #4 spring category but you have a number 5. If it was flipped we would have more of an issue. If you were at 16,000 pounds and had a #4 spring, than I would say it MUST be changed. The spring would simply not perform like it should. Since you are “oversprung”, or since you have more spring than you need, technically you don’t have to change it. Its completely up to you. With a #5 spring, needing a #4, you simply have more spring than you need. The box will still work and will still move the spring, you just won’t get the optimal performance available that you would have with a #4. Hopefully this makes sense. If you have any additional questions feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

Re: Mor Ryde
I suppose they offer individual springs so that you could change them out, right? Even if the #4 spring was expensive, you're still probably gonna be plenty ahead with the steal you got on the box in the first place. My jaw dropped when I saw the first post.

Thank you. Chucking I notice more than up and down.

Re: Mor Ryde
The couple just purchased a brand new 39' Teton so I am pretty sure they weren't worried about the price they sold it for, they kept saying how heavy it was for them to try to move it out of the way of things in their garage(which was a 4 bay might I add). I had the feeling if I could lift it by myself to load it, it was mine!!!!
