Rich......just look at the state you live in........Commiefornia........they now make the refiners add so much junk into the gas, the gas doesnt even smell like gas, if that makes any sense,
Even the diesel fuel refined here smell different from if you bought it in some other state. For that "extra smell", you get to pay 15-20 cents per gallon more here.
Forgot to ask.......is that fresh gas or old gas? like from last season. Did you put any additive in it to keep it from gumming up the carb? Just questions......

Re: Honda Generator
If your generator was fairly close to the Cat and the wind was blowing toward it as well, it'll happen. Humidity also plays a big role in how well exhaust dissipates. If the air is really heavy, the exhaust will tend to stay close to the ground.
I usually try to keep my gennies in the back of the truck and parked away from the Cat far enough that the 30A cord will still reach but the exhaust will be able to dissipate before reaching the Cat. In fact, it's only when I have them on the ground and close in proximity to the Cat that i ever smell exhaust.

Re: Honda Generator
Carb might be a little dirty. Might be running a bit rich. I don't know if a normal person can even take these apart anymore to clean them.
Many times when these get dirty, they run lean till it blows.
May have to bring it to a service tech.
