Waxing Camper 101

Waxing Camper 101
Well I finally pulled my camper home after a long winter in storage and its trip home from the factory. Decided I better give it a spring coat of wax on the new sides that were installed this winter at the factory. The front cap needed some attention too, as it was kind of chalky white. I had purchased a new griot's dual action polisher and wanted to see what it was capable of. Whole process took 4 hours including washing prior to detailing. Here is some pics of the polisher and the products I used. The polisher came with different types of pads for cutting and polishing, which was really nice. It had speeds up to 6000 rpm's to help take off the nasty stuff, but it has to be used with caution at those speeds. This thing was taking off old caulk residue that I have never been able to clean.

The Meguiars #26 yellow wax goes on nice and comes off real easy! It has a nice glow too.

Used this product for the first time on the front cap, Meguiar's G17216 Ultimate Compound.
I taped off a line to see it I could really tell the difference. The pic doesn't do it justice, but it really helped bring back it's original luster. I followed with some Meguiars #26 wax. The wax makes washing the bugs off an ease between trips.

In action......where are my helpers....

Time for a COLD ONE.....whew....and some ibuprofen....

Nice Job!! Think I'll try those wax products. Perhaps you should come over and see if that polisher works the same on my Cat!

Great work. That's how the professional detailers do it. Thanks for the info.

Nice. Your decal on the front looks a lot better than mine. Mine looks like a shotgun hit it

I am interested in that also. I have bought a couple of cheap buffers in the past, but they would never spin well enough to apply the wax. Do you have to be cautious not to damage the finish with a polisher like yours? I have enough vehicles that I should be waxing, but it is such a chore. I am working on the cat right now by hand. One step at a time. About a third of the way done.

Re: Waxing Camper 101
Thanks for the comments. I too have gone through too many cheap wax spreaders. I wanted something that was safer than a traditional polisher, but had some power to do some light cutting. There are 3 different brands of dual action polishers, meguiars, porter cable, and Griots. I chose the Griots after reading of their customer service and lifetime warranty. The others didn't have that kind of warranty. Reading up on them on the forums, it sounded like a ford chevy debate....it was the warranty that sold me.
So far I am REALLY impressed. I really like the velcro backing plate and how easy it is to change out pads. I could have bought just the base unit for a little less $$, but as a package it came with an assortment of pads to do all the jobs of waxing, polishing and cutting minor scratches and swirls. I feel it was $$ well spent in keeping vehicles looking nice....I am sure it will pay for itself in labor and the retail selling of the vehicles in the future. Here are some links to forums and the store I purchase the polisher from. Watch some of the videos. They help explain some of the different types of polishers and the do's and don'ts of them. Great place for information.
