Need more A/C on 32QBBS
I have a 32QBBS with a single 15k BTU ducted A/C and find that the forward bunk room stays pretty warm even with the unit set to blow the air through the ducts. Instead of installing a second roof top unit and increasing the trailer height I am wondering if putting a portable unit would be a better option. My thoughts are to put a unit in one of the cabinets either under the sink on in the wardrobe and install a louver in the cabinet door. I think I could duct the exhaust through the laundry chute and have the drain line run to the dump valve compartment. For power I would run a line and receptacle to the unit and have a weather tight receptacle mounted to the underside of the trailer near the shore power connection and utilize a spare 20 amp outlet at the camp ground. Has anyone done anything similar? Any comments would be appreciated.

How about a fan to move the cold air up there. Have U adjusted the vents? The vent under the AC if U have one. Just food for thought.

By vents I am guessing you mean the one directly under the A/C unit. Yes I close that one off at night so that the air must go through the ducts. The master gets ice cold but I still find it warm in the bunk room. I guess a fan would help but I sure would like some extra cooling up there for when we have a full house and summer is in full swing. A roof mount would be ideal but put me too close for comfort on my storage shelter rafters. The radio antenna slaps them as it is.

Somebody in this blog put extra ducting in there bunk room. Also the thermo mod would help.

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
BayouDude, I have the same problem with my 32QBBS. I also ordered the 15K as we travel to Florida in the summer, but the volume of air getting to the bunk room is minimal while the master bedroom feels like a cold Canadian winter night!!
I also had an additional problem, while in Florida, of the A/C unit freezing up on me when I completely closed the vents under the unit. I'm guessing this had to do with the high humidity. It took about 4 hours with just the fan running to thaw it out (the air was still cold though).
I know many people on the forum have changed out their vents for vents from another manufacturer and I think these vents can be closed off completely or allow for reduced air flow. I'm wondering if I changed out all of my vents and reduced the air flow through the vents in the middle and rear of the trailer if this would then force more of the cold air to the bunk room in the front.
Has anyone with a 32QBBS swaped out their vents and if so, did it help with the air flow to the front bunk room?
Thanks

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
We don't have that model, but we replaced all of our A/C vents, and it made a difference in how our trailer cooled. If you change your vents, you could shut all of them except the one in the bunk room. It might help. Also, maybe something is blocking the flow of air into the bunk room. While you are replacing vents, you could use a mirror and try to see into the pipe.

Scruffy and Tater, when you changed them out did you put in bigger ones or just a different style?

Hi Scott,
Here is the original post on the AC VENTS that lots of us used to replace the originals.
And I'm pretty sure THIS is the one we all used.

You will love installing the upgraded A/C ceiling vents that Scruffy and Tater are talking about. I did mine and the system performs much better. Also you can better direct the air flow direction as well as open, close or vary the amount of air that comes out the upgraded vents.

The vents in the link that Tom provided are the ones we used. They open and close, and rotate. It's nice to be able to direct the flow of the cool air.

Thanks to the recommendations, I ordered 6 of the vents that Tom provided in his post. Shipping to Ontario was $23 but it sounds like money well spent

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
Bayoudude,
Here is a link to the mod I did on my 32QBBS. http://www.wildcatcamperforum.com/t1865-installing-a-second-a-c-unit-in-32-qbbs
I did the vent install but it still wasn't enough. The second A/C is awesome. I put it in the bedroom in the back. I keep the factory vents closed so that sends air to the front for the bunks. I have a Coleman powersaver and It weighs 100#'s or less. One guy set it up there when I had it installed. I ran the wire so they hooked everything up at the dealer. I think it cost $150 to install. I usually run the rear unit(new one) on low and keep the door open so it blows air into the living area. At night the door is shut and it turns into the man cave!
Its not a hard install to do what I did the wire was a little tricky getting over to the outside wall.
Good luck
Jonathan

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
I have a 2006 32 QBBS and have the same problem. I also have a problem constantly tripping when it gets hot outside. Been chasing it down but can't figure it out. The A/C wont keep up and the breaker constantly trips in the heat of the day. Thinking of putting one of those roll around room units.

Is it a 13k or a 15K. My AC had to be replaced because it was doing the same thing. Breaker will pop from over heating if the AC does not function correct. When it was cool outside it had no problem but when it got hot, look out.

Really not sure. Gonna have to go take a look and see. My buddy has a 2010 model and his has no issues like mine. Is there any sites to look at for replacement a/c's that you would recommend? Thanks for your help.

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
I installed a second AC in my 2009 32QBBS. I got the colman 9200 btu polar cub, I also installed the optional heating coil to help with the cold bunk area. I had to cut a new hole and put the required wood support in. Running the wire was no problem. I used the second circuit method. I am using all wires rated at 20 amps. Now at 22700 combined btu I can get it really cold even on a 100 degree high humidity day. I have the better vents in and they just didn't make enough difference. I have no regrets on this mod it makes the unit much more enjoyable on those very hot days.
I got a brain storm and tried my Honda 2000 companion Generator to see if it could run the smaller ac and a minimum load on the main camper circuit. I ran it for about 4 hours on a 95 degree day. The generator in ecno mode at about 2/3 throttle. The camper wasn't all that cool other than in the bunk area, was much better than no cooling though. I think that it would work on a just warm enough to need a little bit of cooling though, about what i hoped for.
I'm ready to see my son in Florida again. Just wasn't so nice in the unit over the 4th when I was there.

I'm sure it's going to be a big change when you get to use it more. 2nd AC should be mandatory in the south.

Don't need a second A/C on our small trailer. The bigger trailers should have them as standard equipment or a low cost option.

BayouDude,
Have you seen the post about enlarging the air space inside the A/C ducts? It's on another FR product, and might help your problem.

Re: Need more A/C on 32QBBS
I have the 32QBBS with the rear 1/2 bath....the AC keeps it okay, but could be better up in the bunk house. I have had mine freeze up twice with a block of ice across it. The Quick Cool AC has a anti-freeze sensor down in the bottom right hand corner of the condenser. I took this sensor and moved it to the center of the condenser where it starts to build up ice.....The problem went away. On extremely hot days when the unit is hard at work, I can hear the compressor kick off and the fan stay running just as it's designed to do....

I do want to add the 2nd AC for the front....has anyone added one there? I'm not worried about weight or height as the I will get the low profile unit and it will sit below what the Maxx Vent height is now. If anyone had done this, can the wire be pulled down an interior wall (maybe the one by the vanity) and then to the storage compartment?

I have a 2011 31TS. Mine came wired for installation of the forward AC. I did add it, and it's made all the difference in the summer months.

We have the 32 QBT and "you could hang meat" in the front bunks, we were in Tennessee this summer and it was 110 deg for the week, we had no issues with our 13K unit. I made sure the filter stayed clean so there would be no loss in air flow which freezes things up.

I added the second AC to the front of my 2009 32QBBS. I had to add some wood for a frame around the hole. The wiring was easy. From the new hole the wire will go with the others up the cabinet wall on the left right beside the sink. If you pull the inside cabinet panel out you will see a bunch of wires. I ran a 10 gauge wire up to the ac there. As you know the converter and all of the wiring come in to the main unit in the bottom of the cabinet. Do be careful as there are a bunch of wires where you will be cutting the hole for the AC. If the same as mine the wires will be by the rear of the hole you will cutting. I installed my breaker box for the second AC in behind the converter. My total height is now 12'11" That includes raising my unit to fit my Dodge. I maybe gained 1-2" from the AC install over my vent covers.
