Dometic Refrigerator Drain Hose

Dometic Refrigerator Drain Hose
The plastic refrigerator drain line on my Dometic RM2652 has become brittle with age on my 07 Cat. With past trailers, I used a larger diameter vinyl hose and slid it over the original up far into the bowels of the unit, with the new vinyl hanging out the access door. However, this time, it also cracked/broke up high where it enters the refrigerator cabinet. I can see it, I can even snake my hand up and touch it, but no way can a new hose be attached.
Looking from the inside of the refrigerator, it looks like I should be able to pull out the insert where it goes thru the wall, and then I could attach the hose and feed it back down to the bottom of the unit on the outside. An easy fix, I would think, except I can't get the plastic pass-thru out from the inside. If I get something thin, like a screwdriver, and pry a little, it isn't going to pop out. I will probably end up breaking it. However, I could just feed the vinyl tubing thru the hole, and use caulk to seal around it.
Has anybody else done this, and how did you accomplish it?

I would like to see how that can be done without removing the refer? Very curious because I am almost in the same boat.

In the past I have removed the refrigerators in 2 of our RV's to replace the drain hose. If you find a better way please post.

I did mine, but it was a major pain in the arse! I used a clear vinyl hose from the local hardware store. I can't remember the diameter. It just took some patients, alot of scraped knuckles and time. I used to large long handled hemostats to finese a new hose over the drain. Used the same process to zip tie it into place. What originally looked like an easy fix, turned into an hour ordeal. Good luck.

Re: Dometic Refrigerator Drain Hose
Here's whats happened so far. I pried and pulled on the catch-cup inside the reefer. I thought I was going to break it, but taking my time and twisting and pulling, out it popped! The solid plastic tube on the end of the catch-cup is four inches long. The hole in the reefer cabinet is just big enough for the plastic tube to pass thru. So, the plastic drain hose and ty-rap won't fit thru, but pulling and twisting finally forced the end of the tubing/ty-rap off, and it fell to the bottom on the outside. So far so good. Now I've got the catch-cup & solid tube out. The tube is barbed.
The next problem is that if I slip new vinyl tubing over the barbed tube, it will not pass thru the hole. My plan is to ream out the hole large enough to pass the assembled tube/tubing thru. I will be going to the HD for some tubing tomorrow. I know that I will have to caulk around the hole from the inside since I will ream it out to pass the completed assembly thru. I'll post what happens.

Re: Dometic Refrigerator Drain Hose
OK, job's done. Here are a few pictures. This is the catch cup after I pulled it out from the inside.

I used a piece of cheap garden hose I had just for wrapping around a newly-planted tree trunk when I staked it. This thin half-inch hose fit perfectly (snugly) over the barbed catch cup tube.

I had to ream the hole in the reefer cabinet a little in order to get the hose to pass thru. Pushed the hose thru.

Put a little plumber's putty on back of catch cup plate, and pushed it all the way in.

On the outside, the garden hose was too stiff to maneuver thru the hole in the access cover, so I cut the hose off at about the top of the access hole and I had some very flexible quarter-inch rubber fuel hose that snugly slipped up into the garden hose. Easy to put thru the hole in the access cover. The right combinatioin of tubing to begin with would have been better, but I used what I had. Job finished, works like a charm.
