Scooter carrier
I got the rack set up for my scooter, it looks like its going to do the job, I think I will add another set of brake lights though, you cant see the right light, I have been able to get a lot of mods completed while I have been waiting on my truck, the dealer said it may be in Monday, sure hope so, Im wanting to try out the new camper, but the extra time has given me time to do what I was wanting to get done to it, so far I think the back up camera will be one of the best mods. if you look close you can see the camera just above the rear window, Ill post pictures of all the other mods in the gallery when I get a chance

Re: Scooter carrier
Hi Rusty, looks good, how much does the scooter weigh? is the rack set into the receiver back there or attached directly to the frame. I have thoughts of doing this also, is it difficult to load?

The scooter weighs about 289 pounds, The rack goes into the hitch reciver and I also have a reciver on each side of the bumper, the recivers bolt on to the bumper, I ordered them off E Bay for $50, dilvered, now it has three mounting points, its very stable, as far of loading, one person can load it with no problem, if the spot is to low I just put a couple of Lynx leveling blocks under the ramp
PS Looks like we have the same trailer but I dont have the manual slide control

Re: Scooter carrier
That weighs less than I thought, did the rack come off ebay also or from the scooter shop? We are opposite, you have your trailer and no truck, I have truck and no trailer, mine was supposed to be ready for pickup tomorrow however they just called and told me they didn't get all the parts in to do the manual slide control so looks like next week, we are really getting anxious to get it and make it ours.

Re: Scooter carrier
Looks good. I wonder if a receiver could hold 350 lbs.

Re: Scooter carrier
Tater I believe the rear receiver on the Wildcat is rated at 300lbs tongue weight and 3000lb tow, with Rusty having it attached to the bumper at each end in addition to the receiver it seems like it would be pretty solid to me.

Re: Scooter carrier
Was wondering about the 350 lbs because of this:
http://www.rvrover.net/
I want one, but I won't be getting one. I believe the electric version weighs 350. Kinda expensive though. Scruffy says a two-wheel trailer would be the way to haul it - that's even more expensive. It sure is cute! I'd be cute riding around on it.

Re: Scooter carrier
Tater those are neat looking, kind of a three wheel golf cart, and it probably would do better towing it on a trailer and I am not into towing doubles plus you couldn't use it to run to the store for milk and bread.

Re: Scooter carrier
What bothers me is that the W/C bumper is not all that strong. I'd reinforce the bumper, you don't want the bumper falling off while the bike is on it.

Re: Scooter carrier
The way they mounted they bolt on each side of the welded joints and the hitch is welded up pretty good too, theres not that much weight on the bumper its more for balance than anything else, Ill know for sure how it holds up next week, that is if my truck gets in, the dealer said its suppose to be here tomorrow, Ill just waite and see, if it is Ill be going camping next week for a few days and also get a little trout fishing in too

Re: Scooter carrier
I was thinking theres already reports on here where the bumper had fallen off using those mounts or towing something.
Theres no way I'd trust the stock welding especially something pushing the weight limit. I'm not sure if thats a Dry weight you have or a wet weight === with Gas and oil, that adds a few more pounds.

Re: Scooter carrier
My thinking is when you add the rack weight and the Scooter weight you come up to 450#s (on the heavy side) you have 300#s on the hitch and 150#s on the bumper then devide that by 2, you only have 75#s on each bumper hitch, Im sure that is more than enough to haul the scooter or divide 450 by 3 and you have 150 #s at each point, either way I think it will be ok, I checked with my insurance company and my Scooter is covered if it dosent work and I have to make a claim

Re: Scooter carrier
Most everyone who carries weight has a hitch welded to the frame. You have to think about the rough roads and bouncing, adding to the stress of the bumper. You might loose your bumper/scooter, and that might be a hazard to any vehicle behind you. I had a welding shop weld boxed steel from frame to frame and then weld a receiver on it. The welder stated that it would hold 1000 lbs. That was a good safety margin, because I never plan to carry anything over 400 lbs. on the back of our WC.

Re: Scooter carrier
I carry a Honda scooter SH 150i on the back of my Wildcat 25RL. The scooter weighs 309# wet and the Boss carrier weighs 75# for a combined almost 400#. BUT like the others in this thread I have had my local hitch installer (more than 30 years experience) reinforce the 2" receiver with two new crossmembers. It is now rated at 500#.
The Honda easily carries 2 adults (two 58 year olds total combined weight 375#) very comfortably (wide/long scooter seats) and can reach freeway speeds although I have no intention of doing any long distance touring...just local riding and short jaunts down a few freeway exits. It has an automatic transmission, 35 litre cargo tote and the great Honda reliability.

The carrier will easily carry the Honda. The carrier comes with tail lights which is good because your RV lights will probably be hidden behind the scooter.

You have a nice looking scooter, I went out and dubbled checked the hitch today and its welded up pretty good to the frame and where the bumper is welded on, it looks pretty good too, Ill keep an eye on it when I take the first trip with it, Ill only be going a bout 60 miles to the campground it should be a fair test for it, but Im pretty sure it will hold up, if not I see about putting on more braces
