opinions wanted

Post by brokeinct on 4/16/2011, 1:49 pm

Hope this doesn't start a mess on here but chime in with your 2cents. Retiring my 1999 ford 250 5.4 she towed the cat for 2 years but struggled. Been a Ford man since 1980 this was my 3rd f250 and the best. Anyway torn between the 2011 ford 6.2 gasser with 6 speed rated for 12600 tow or have the option on a 2010 dodge diesel, the ford is 5k more, and new dodge has 18,000 miles. what do you think? average 12,000-14,000 on truck for mileage approx 2k towing per yr.

ok here's my 2 cents....I have the F250 with Triton V10 6.8 litre. More than enough power, plus I like knowing that no matter what gas station I pull into, I can refuel.

Go with a diesel. The new Ford diesels look awsome to me - 800 ft-lbs of torque! A gasser won't even come close. The Dodge is no slouch either. The better fuel econmy of a diesel more then makes up for higher cost of fuel. My Cummins has all the power I need but I'd go with the new Ford diesel if I had the choice today. You can never have too much power.

I'd go diesel as well. I'll never own a gasoline power vehicle. Even my mower is diesel.

Depends on how much and where you pull. Friend of mine has a 5.4, pulls from house to same campground (90mi) 3-4 times a year, fairly level truck works fine. I pull 10-15K miles a year, mountains, flatland what ever with my diesel, would not trade it for a gasser with my type of use. Daily driver with occasional pull go gas, Lots of pulling go diesel.

But a DODGE, NOW YOUR TALKIN!!!! Laughing

My 2011 Dodge DRW gets 12 MPG pulling my Montana 5th wheel(13K#), but around town we also get 12 MPG. The lie-O-meter has been as high as 16 MPG on the highway, but that goes way down when we get into city driving.

But I have to agree with Maxtor, the Ford's are really nice....

If it's between gas or diesel, I'd say take the diesel. Ford would be the best choice, but Dodge is a close second. Wink

Earl diesel lawn mower. How much U mow welcome
Anyway back to topic. DIESEL. Hard between Ford and Dodge. Been Ford man all the way. Ford has the CC Cab to die for and Dodge has the engine Ford needs bad. Cummings will beat that 2011 anyway. Torn between to lovers is like a ball and chain.

If you stay in flat land ,,, yea stay with your gasser.
but if you ever get behind the wheel of a Diesel no matter what brand, and your driving in the hills. You'll never turn back to a gasser.

Just my 2 cents, I am saving a ton of cash on fuel with my dodge diesel over my gmc gasser. I was over $400 month since its also my daily driver, I am down under $150. My Lie o Meter has me at 22-25 hwy and 15-17 around town!!!

If you gave me a new gas truck, I'd sell it and buy my old truck back and pocket the money. :) 96 Dodge ram 2500: Fresh paint, fresh front end, fresh built trans and a little bit of power adder. MPG is great, 12-14 towing, 22 on the highway empty.

With my old '02 Dodge 3500, 6 sp manual tranny and 4:11 gears, I average 10.5-12 pulling, depending on terrain and with not pulling, flatlands, never been over 14. I think my "lie-o-meter" is correct, but which it wasnt... even so, I still can get 350-400 out of a tank pulling, but never let it get below 1/4, then it's time for more juice.
