Townsend, Tn.
I have heard that the Smokey Mountains are the most visited park in the US. I have camped in Pigeon Forge before but am looking for a quieter place to stay. I have started looking in Townsend. Hoping someone has some good Info before I book reservations.
Thanks

Have you tried this website

You have to read each post cause some people give poor reviews for some pretty poor reasons.

Here is the site I use for Smoky Mountain area campgrounds. You get to see all of the area locations at one time.
http://www.smokymountains-rv-campgrounds.com/
I have stayed at #10 and #14 in Pigeon Forge, been told by friends that #32 is very nice (but a little pricey). I have stayed at #23 and #24 in Townsend.
I really enjoyed #23, the KOA, for their "extras" in the summer. They have a large blow-up movie screen where they show movies on the weekend, just bring your chair and enjoy. They have tubes to so you can go "tubing" on the river. They take you up the river by van and you float back to their landing at the campground.
It is very close to Cades Cove - a must see destinantion for a trip to the Smoky's. It is close to the "tail of the dragon" if you are a motor cycle rider.
Keep in mind that Townsend is very small with few entertainment or dinning choices. If you want all the hustle & bustle and entertainment venues, you want Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is an easy drive from Townsend, but there is not much to do in Townsend, except relax and enjoy yourself.
