I have the Companion setup and very staisfied. I have no clearance issues either. My 2500 has the short bed and not the long bed. Looks like I almost have the same setup as you. Since the Companion has no rails and is a two piece hitch, it is so easy to remove and re-install. Hope you like it.

It is a great hitch. We had to do some modifying and do not try to torque the 3/4 bolt on top. We still have many koodos for it. I have a winch set up in my garage that takes mine off.

Why not? (torque the top bolt) The companion is a great hitch, you won't be diappointed.

I'm also interested in your (Portagie1968) comment about not torquing the 3/4 inch bolt on top. I always torque to the 40 lbs. that's stated in the directions. I would think you would risk the companion moving (rotating) on you with out the downward thrust especially once the load in pushing down on it.

Nope will not move. If you adjust the square tube correctly and tighten the ubolts to 80 ft lbs it never moves. If U tighten the top bolt to much U bend the frame. If u tighten the ubolts correctly it will also bend the frame. I put the hitch in and set the trailer down on it. I make sure the trailer is pulling back against the post. I tighten the top bolt until the pin drags as U pull it in and out. Tighten U bolts with wrench. Check pin. Adjust bolt as needed. Once I got it were I want it I remove trailer and tighten U bolts to 80 ft lbs. I had to buy new U bolts for mine. Ones provided sucked. I make sure I remove the pin before I remove trailer. If I do not pin will not come out. Trailer has to be on before pin will go into place. I never touch it again.

I had to read that a couple of times before I understood what you were doing. Doing it that way saves wear & tear on the bolts. Just set it up once and forget about it. Nice.

Yes. I is part Portagie so I did the best I could to explain it. When I am done with the hitch I use the winch in the garage ceiling to pull it out.
