Adding Tail lights to Wildcat

Post by pistolpeter55 on 4/10/2011, 9:09 am

Hi all, I am new to this forum and and looking for some help. On my 2010 Wildcat 28RKBS the taillights are obstructed when I put a cover on our bikes mounted on a rack using the rear 2" builtin receiver. The lights are set in a ways from the edge. Instead of moving the lights I was thinking of adding a second set closer to the edge. Questions: can the truck's flasher handle a second set of lights, Does anyone know how or where the wires run to the current set of taillights, Any suggestions on how to do this?
Thank you all in advance.

I can't help with where your wiring is, but your trucks flasher should be fine. What your suggesting isn't any different than pulling doubles. If you can't access the wires from the rear of your trailer you can always run a new set of wires from the junction box up front.

My tailight wires are just beneath the trailer in the back and are then routed up to the lights.
You could always use LED instead they use very little power.

I found the harness under the plastic underbelly along the frame on the left side of the trailer. I think it followed the 7-pin wiring standard for the colors. It's been about 5 years since I tapped them so it could be different on your trailer.

The flasher should be fine. I haven't had an issue with a second set of lights when double towing.

Use a circuit tester to verify which color wire serves which function in case they don't follow the standard trailer wiring protocol.

The LED suggestion was a good one. They use a fraction of the current that incandescent lights do so it's an extra precaution to prevent overload.

You could also mount them down lower on the bumper. It's a good solid place to mount and you wouldn't have to worry about drilling or mounting to the wall of the Wildcat.

How about a set of those tail lights for towing a car? the ones you suction cup or magnetically stick to the trunk of a car when towing it. You would probably still have to run a connection to the rear of the Cat, but it beats cutting into her.....

Just a thought.

That appears to be a great idea. Can you find them in LED

Anyone know if there is a GOOD LED replacement for the 2057 rear tail light bulbs on my cat. I don't want to switch out the light I would just like LED light bulbs that fit in and WORK.

Try a local truck stop. (Flying J, Love's, etc.) They have a TON of light options and I have seen a direct replacement for 1157, 2057, 1140, and 1141 bulbs that are all LED. Just unplug old and plug in new!!

They run around $7.00 each...

They also have a tail light bulb that Beeps when you put it in reverse. We have them on the trucks here at work.

A set of these on the camper when backing wouldn't be a bad Idea. It would be annoying but it could save someone's life to. Especially a kid --- or a grown up,,,, that wasn't paying attention. Idea

They're kinda pricey and I haven't installed them on my truck yet, but will soon.
