Re: Up Grading sound system
Mike, I've been wanting to chuck the Concertone and upgrade my sound system for awhile now. Problem is, you pretty much have to start from scratch. And I haven't found a good way to do it yet.
Even though it's technically not a d.i.y. project, one of the local car stereo retail/installers says they do RVs and boats all the time. I'm half tempted to pull the Cat down to them to see what they can do or suggest.
Maybe Bob the Concertone guy will chime in here and tell you if there's a wiring diagram for your unit or not, or if your sub needs power or not.
Good luck with this one. I'll keep checking back to see if you got further along with this than I did.

Re: Up Grading sound system
If my memory is still working there was a wiring guide in this site somewhere. When I get time later today I will try and see if I can find it.

Try this site. No speaker wiring but it is a start.

Re: Up Grading sound system
I've rewired mine a few times trying various versions of the concertone in hopes of keeping the 12v 5.1 surround. The Wiring diagram is on the back of each concertone, and is pretty straight forward.
The sub is powered internally from the concertone, so it will need an external amp or a surround that has an amplified output.
The other 5 speakers are straight forward.
Another problem you will have (at least in my unit) is that if you have the ability to move the TV from the main living area to the bedroom like our 2005 27BHWB, the remote sensor will likely no longer work because most home surround sound systems do not come with a port for an external IR sensor. You will need a universal RF remote that sends IR signals mounted near the eye of the IR sensor on you surround.
The wiring mess behind the concertone is more a dramatic visual effect then it is hard to manage. There are 2 Audio/Video outputs, a power/ground harness, the speaker harness, the IR sensor connector, the Radio antenna, and I think thats about it. All in all, less then 30 wires in all. When you pull the unit out, it looks like 5000 wires and an idiot wired it. I found all speaker had the same colors from the trailer, but the unit itself was color coded. I also found power wire wrapped around everything else.
The only other issue, is of course, the matter of powering the unit if you like to 12v camp like I do... if I was in your predicament, I'd have dumped the concerntone on day 2 of ownership.
If there really is a concertone person on here, why is it that all concertones suck? I'm on my FOURTH one, and it still sucks. Each unit/model has a new problem.
P.S. If I had advice for the person whom wired my concertone in my wildcat, it would be this: Never touch wires again. Ever... and I'd like fries with that.

We have a Concertone Bob on this form and your comments He will not like even though U are right. The build and the wiring of these units lacks serious QC. Military long time and there would be a lot of educational accidents for all to improve QC.
