Regulators...again
Sorry, long-winded.
On the drivers side of my West Coast edition I have a 18lb high pressure regulator. I didn't realize for a long time that my auto switch over wasn't working, figured it was operator error and just lugged the tanks back and forth when needed. I am now trying to get it figured out, I understand that the tanks must be opened slowly, and have made sure tanks are full. I have replaced the pig tail, as that seemed to be part of the problem, I now hear the click and know that propane is flowing, next issue is the 18lb regulator, the propane flows through, and also out the escape valve, I switched the valve and the green came on and the stove lit (I'm pretty sure), let it run a couple of minutes to make sure not just running on residual. So my next step was to replace this valve, have looked all over and cannot find this valve, Gas-Flo GR-618, stopped at local RV supply, ended up purchasing high pressure 11 lb valve......no go!! Does the difference between 11lb and 18lb really make a difference?? or am I just still looking for another issue??
Thanks, John

Re: Regulators...again
NOT an expert,Just to be clear.
So is your curb side working and not the street side?I had the problem of LP not working and one side was the pigtail, the other was a piece of rubber blocking the brass connector. Here is the link to my problem, glance though it and see if anything helps you.I replaced my 18lb. reg. with a 20lb..This is my local RV dealer I got it from.I'll answer any questions I can for you,I know how mine drove me nuts when I was trying to figure it out.
Good luck John

Thanks Mel,
Still working on this, the more I don't succeed the back burner this project is.....next step will be to disconnect the supply hose from the 2 stage regulator....see if propane is making to that point.

Re: Regulators...again
On the marshall web site the high pressure regulator is 30 psi ? http://www.shleggitt.com/edlees/5thwheel.html
On my Cat it is 18 psi ? Just wondering what one is right it seems that when I run any gas in my trailer it causes the change over valve to go red does seems to affect gas going to trailer I guess I will check into a 30 psi and see how that works.

Re: Regulators...again
The Gas-Flo GR-618 is no longer made the replacement is the GR 630 it is a 30 PSI model and it is what Forest River will send you if you order it from them.
Before you order this, double check the check valve in the 2 stage auto switch over regulator and make sure it is not stuck shut. This is not the quick pressure shut off valve. The check valve is in the regulator to prevent the tanks from equalizing. If the check valve is not part of the regulator check the line going to the regulator to see if it has one that is inline. I'm not sure where it may be based on the year of your cat.

Re: Regulators...again
So if FR replaced the 18lb with a 30lb does that mean the 11lb that I purchased will not work? Do I need to go higher rather than lower? I was told the proane comes directly out of the tank at a very high volume and the regulator is "taming" it to 18lbs and that lower is fine as the 2-stage is lower yet????

Re: Regulators...again
If you go too low of a psi your main regulator will not work right. I HAD a 30psi and had to replace it 2 times

So is 30psi the magic number? Why do you think you needed to replace it?

Re: Regulators...again
O.K. Guys my problem was in the change over regulator replaced with one from my old fifthwheel and works fine no more problems. Possibly will get ahold of Forest River and see if I can get them to send me a new unit. Also I found that the marshall site has some info on how to test these units http://www.shleggitt.com/edlees

OneTonFord, glad you were able to track it down. Did Forest River send you the new regulator that you installed?
Do you have any idea why it stopped working?

Re: Regulators...again
No picked it up from dealer I got fiver from. just contacted forest river first and confirmed it was under warrenty and they told me to go to dealer no problem they called me to come and pick it up. I purchased trailer from RV travelworld in Sacarmento. Also learned that the pigtails have rubber checks at the change over valve in the brass adapters when Forest River installs them they usually remove them it consist of a plastic washer, spring, and a small rubber disc.
I have no Idea why it stopped working since I never used it must have been defective. Did notice the way they mounted it was on part of metal frame and wood bulk head and had twisted the mounting plates I straightend and put some spacers on three mounting screws and it sits flat now.
