marinco power cord conversion.

Post by driverguy on 4/3/2011, 2:47 pm

I have the stowage compartment for my power cord opened up right now so I could attach the vent tube for the fresh water tank properly. I have considered doing the Marinco conversion and thought that now would be the perfect time. My question is to those of you who have done this conversion. Is it a simple swapping out of parts, or was there modification of the existing hole through the trailer, or anything else for that matter?

driverguy,

I bought what I thought was the conversion kit. Turned out it wasn't and the plate didn't fit over the hole. I have a friend who runs a sheetmetal shop who gave me an aluminum plate, cut to the size I needed with a hole for the outlet drilled in.

Worked just fine after that. I'd be careful to make sure it was the conversion kit that has a plate made to cover the hole. Otherwise it was a very easy install.

FR attaches the black power cord to a "J" box on the floor of the small compartment on the inside of the trailer, then runs a 10/2 with ground over to the 120VAC side of the power center. I had a piece of 10/2 Romex (orange) laying around that I used to connect the Marinco receptical to the "J" box on the floor.

Piece of cake.

Same here, I also had a piece of white aluminun laying around. I filled the hole with insulation as this was a very drafty area. Now snug as a bug. Jack

The kit I bought had another larger ring with it: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/1461117834056654887JykkTv
All I had to do was to use a little round file to file some indentions into the cover in order to close it completely, it was hitting the screws.

I buy directly from a young lady at a place that is a lot cheaper than RV dealers. This stuff especially. Name and number if you want and check it out.

Try this place first. U need to know the product you are looking for. May find it on there web site. This lady saved me big bucks. I bought the 30 Amp Male receptacles so I could plug shore power to my trailer. Saved me about $30 from RV Dealer price.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will order the kit. Amazon has the best price I have found so far. Ken

I forgot to put on my post that you may need to call them and see what they can get and at what price.
