Fuel cost

Post by Sean on 3/23/2011, 11:09 am

Our Coalition Government has reduced fuel tax by 1 pence (about 1 1/2 cents) big deal. fuel prices in my local area are now at £1.38 per litre ($2.24). wow what should I spend my savings on, 75 litres average fill save me just over £1 which I could use to buy a lotto ticket I could win a lot of money then I would not have to worry.

Ya, but then you gotta pay tax on your winnings which probably equals more than you won... Now your back to square one! Wink

Maybe you could buy a slice of pizza with your savings instead?

No lotto winnings over here are tax free I would have to pay tax on the interest made when deposited in the bank. So I suppose it's a win loose situation.

Pizza and a pitcher of beer would be better.

Our favorite grocery store also sells gas.... no diesel. They charge a penny less than the other gas stations, and they always have people waiting in line. So, that 1 1/2 cent reduction might be a big thing.

Get a flux capacitor and install it on a semi fuel tanker and head back into time.

Start making your own biodiesel. It would be less than a buck fifty a gallon. I may have to go check into learning how to do my own here shortly. either that or start using off road fuel.
Has anyone ever been pulled over and checked for fuel dye ?

Right on jackattack, the color of off-road and heating fuel is dyed because there is no federal or state tax on it. It makes it easier to identify if some happy gendarme of the state happens to dip the tank.

Bio-diesel has a golden color (saw it on History Channel "Modern Marvels" the other night). The exhaust smells like whatever was cooked in it; fries, fish, chicken, etc. It's 80% processed cooking oil and 20% methanol.

Diesel seems to be clear to slightly yellow here in NH. Not sure about elsewhere. The yellowish color might be due to the anti-gelling compound they add here in the winter.

It's funny you asked about being checked. I am just north of Little Rock,AR visiting some friends, and one of them remarked that I should have been on the same road I took to their house this past Wednesday as they were checking the diesel trucks heading to and from a cattle auction for off road diesel in the tanks. As for me I have never been checked in all my travels. Jim

Ford does not really like you to use Bio in a 6.0. Our road diesel is green.

They hit my area now and then checking farmer's trucks for off road fuel. It's a hefty fine I hear. Not worth the gamble.

Diesel around here is a very slight green tint.

Portgie1968 let me know if you find that $1.50 a gallon, here in central Ca. i would be exstadic to find it for $3.50 a gallon, 1/2 mile from my house it is $4.19 and that is the cheapeast around. But regardless of the price, camping season starts next wensday for us, a one week trip to pismo beach ca. So wether we are towing the cat or playing on the beach next week ,the price of fuel is what it is, so let the CAMPING SEASON BEGIN !!!!!!!!!!!!

"Diesel around here is a very slight green tint."

The diesel stabilizer/injector cleaner I use is kinda redish in color. If our diesel is tan or greenish what happens to the color when I add this stuff, I havn't drained any out but I think it will discolor the pump grade to the the "not for use" color won't it? BTW we are about $4.50 a gallon up here is Canada, that's why 90% of our trips are across the border for cheap fuel and beer.
