Dinette Cushion Foam Upgrade/Mod

Post by Mopar_Earl on 2/24/2011, 7:46 pm

I just placed my order with Speedwell Enterprises for upgraded foam for my dinette seat cushions. The OEM foam is cheap junk! It's comfy for a second or two and then you slowly sink down until you hit the plywood. I'm picking up my new foam at the York RV show. I'll report my findings once I try them out.

This is a mod that I have on my list. I am anxious to hear of the quality. Speedwell is almost in my back yard. Can I ask how much they quoted your Earl.

Thanks
Kevin

That sounds like a good idea. We have the table and chairs, but if we had the dinette, I think we would want something comfortable.

For the two bottom cushions, $110.24 with tax. That's picking them up while he's at the York RV show, so no shipping. I was going to do all 4 but he made me realize the backs don't need done if you use the backs as the head and feet positions when made into a bed.

Installed my new foam today. Man it's night and day!! The new foam is at least twice as heavy as the OEM foam. It's so comfy it's unreal. Worth every penny! He called it K34 foam. The new foam is bluish. I highly recommend Speedwell! They were easy to work with and he made nice clean cuts. He said it sounds pricey but I wouldn't be disappointed and man, he was right.

Glad to hear you're happy with the replacement foam! I always like to send my business where others have had good experiences with products and services. Speedwell Enterprises is now on my list. Thanks!

I just got a quote from Speedwell Enterprises for one 24in X 44in X 4in foam pad. The price was $62.00 plus $$16.00 shipping.
Think I will look else where. Don.........

Earl, I couldn't agree more with "You Get What You Pay For". I think I will be contacting Speedwell Enterprises and order as set for our dinette cushions... The original ones are the worst I have ever seen....

I didn't haggle with them so maybe you can get it cheaper if you did?? He does have other foams but that would be a waste to get slightly better foam. His cuts were perfect and the OEM were hack jobs. He also put that white fluffy stuff on that the OEM had as well. I know I'm happy with the foam and the money I paid. I spend a lot of time sitting at my dinette. It's not just for eating. It's my desk, my snack bar, my laptop desk, my planning and mapping desk, bed for guests and etc.

My seat foam measured 22"X44"X4" not counting the white fluffy stuff. Double check your size as they could be different.

An addition to this mod that I did last year was to add velcro to the bottom of the cusion. I found this posted somewhere. The cusions never moved again, except if I removed them. Worked well.

Ok promised to report back after installation of the new cushions. All I can say is what a huge difference the new foam makes. I would say its the best mod I've done on the inside at this point....
Earl thanks for the posting where to buy/find the foam....

Sweet, glad you are happy as well. I noticed after my 1100 mile trip my cushions didn't move around anymore and my back cushions fit tighter and don't fall out anymore either.

Something uncomfortable can ruin a vacation - fixing it to something comfortable (in your case, it was dinette cushions), will really make the vacation pleasant. Thanks for the update, Bill.

Earl, I think the new foam weighs about 6 lbs (each cushion) heavier than the stock.
Just Love'em.
