Def/Adblue

Post by Sean on 2/24/2011, 7:58 am

I don't know if owners of vehicles fitted with Def or Adblue tanks know, that it is very important to make sure you do not contaminate the def/adblue tank as this has a detrimental effect on the senors. Could be costly. Also if you run out of Def/Adblue your engine might go into limp home mode.

My 2006 Ford went into limp home mode in the mountains of West Virginia while pulling the Wildcat, that was NO FUN!!!

In the U.S., you only have to worry about that in 2011 and newer diesel trucks.

I believe I read that the Dodges won't go into limp mode but won't restart after you shut it down till you fill the urea tank to a certain level. The truck warns you many times before the tank is empty. So if you ignore the truck's warnings, you'll be sorry!!

I do not think the Dodges have DEF, only the GM Twins and the Ford. Dodge is able to meet all emisions without DEF to 2012 at least. All 3 do have DPF though.

I believe it's the cab chassis and med duty Dodges are using urea.

I checked the net, cab chassis and med duty Dodges have been using urea since 2010. They fall into different emission laws than the pickups.

I believe you are right Earl, my Dodge 3500 doesn't use it.

You get so much warning, "less than 1/2", "800mi to go" etc that if you let it run out you need to limp home!
