Dometic Heater Problems

Post by S & K Rose on 2/23/2011, 5:53 am

We own a 2009 Wildcat 31TS. We have a Dometic Heater in this camper. Our heater is coming on, but it is blowing cold air and is not heating up. Here are the symptoms, we know we have propane, because the stove and oven light, and the hot water heater is working. We are currently living in this camper and don't want to disconnect to go get it fixed. We would like to troubleshoot everything we can before we take that step. Can you give us some suggestions of things to check? Thank you for your assistance!

welcome to the forum from the U.K. first and foremost.
If oven is OK , this does not use any battery power, and the water heater is working this only uses a little battery power, unlike the the furnace which uses power all the time it is running. Have you checked the power (12 volt) the furnace does not really like voltage lower than 11.5 volts. is your converter charger giving your battery the right amount of voltage?. You have to remember that when its dark you have lights on, all those light will consume power, a 21watt bulb uses 1 3/4 amps multiply by the amount of lights and you might find that you do not have enough power left if your battery or converter charger has a fault. So to summarize check battery water levels, check voltage at battery with converter charger off then check with converter charger on. I hope this helps as I do think it might be a voltage problem, if there is plenty of gas available.

Thanks Sean, we got it fixed. There was a bunch of stuff in the vent. We cleaned it out really well, and it works better than ever!

Which vent, the outside one? or the return vent inside?

Do you have screens over your outside heater vents? If not I recommend them. They're great for keeping debris and mud daubers out. The screens can be bought at just about any RV dealer that sell parts.

I don't have a good pic of the screens but this will give you an idea of what they look like.
