Slide-out mechanism and mice?

Post by c04678 on 2/15/2011, 4:36 am

I believe that i was able to get all the nooks and cranny's sealed up with expanding foam, but i'm wondering if a mouse crawls into the area where the slid mechanism is what is in there that he could chew on and damage. I would rather not drop the under belly cover to inspect. Anyone have pictures of this area or should I not worry.

Thanks

A mouse only needs a hole the size of a pencil to get in. get some traps and be sure

I sprayed the expansion foam all around the slide rail holes as well.

I know this sounds really weird, but it really does work, put a couple of Bounce Dryer Sheets in the areas you are concerned about, mice don't like them.

I have used them since we bought our cat I have never found one mouse (hope I didn't jinx myself) inside our cat. I change them every other month, especially around the pipes and tires. Cheap and only takes a few seconds to change.

Also they work really well for removing bugs from the front of the cat in summer Wink

I put dryer sheets in every nook and cranny this year after having a visitor in one cabinet at the front of the Cat last year. Guess what? The only thing the dryer sheet did was make it easier to pick up and throw away mouse poop. They were even worse this year but luckily the doors on the cabinets in the front bedroom close so tight they can's get out to the rest of the Cat. I know they are coming up through the basement. I'll have to remedy that this year.

One thing I did on my last trailer is to wait until dark, turn on lights inside, then look all around the storage compartments. Any place you can see light in the compartment, or basement, is a spot when mice can get in.

Just for the record, expansion foam will not stop mice from entering. They can gnaw through steel wool if they want in bad enough. Dryer sheets give them scented bedding material. Poison is not my favorite, because they eat it and then usually die somewhere out of reach. Traps are the best!

I used traps with success before.

The only time I worry about mice is when I put the trailer in winter storage. Then I load the trailer with dryer sheets and then put glue traps in stratigic locations.

Dryer Sheets only make fresh smelling mice. Laughing

They do nothing to stop them from entering. We had them actually use the dryer sheets as bedding/nesting material in our old 5er.

We have stored our camper in a metal storage shed and we put fabric softner all over inside and many packages of decon on the ground outside all around the trailer . we have never had mice and this place is pretty much out in the country at the end of town..The camper did smell really strong but we just opened up and aired it out.

Lo and behold, when we ran our main slide out this afternoon, a baby mouse dropped onto the pavement from underneath close the frame. Now I've gotta start looking for the nest.

I HATE MICE!!
