LOOKING FOR NICE CAMPGROUND NEAR DISNEY IN FLORIDA?????

Post by zoeysheenagirl1 on 2/4/2011, 9:52 am

HI Everyone,
Planning a trip next year for one month to Florida, want to stay near all of the attractions, disney, sea world, etc. Looking for a reasonable campground, and a nice one. Anybody have any suggestions, never been to Florida before.
Will be the first trip to Florida in the 32 ft, cat.

thanks John, I think I know who you are talking about, as I have seen there posts before. I am already doing some research on campgrounds, however it is so nice to actually have some insight from someone who has stayed at a campsite before you book

If you find that its just a few dollars difference from a off site campground than compared to Fort wilderness, I'd highly recommend Ft wilderness. Even if its just part of your stay for a week or so, its well worth the experience of staying there. Especially the week you do disney world parks.

Nasa space center is another must see while your there. its right at a hour drive from orlando at cape canaveral.

St Augustine is another nice place to stay maybe on your way down or back up, I'd recommend Bryn Mawr Rv resort for there or if you want a nice state park, Anastasia would be the one. lots to do around st augustine in the old city.

Daytona is a must see while your there also, check out the daytona 500 track, and a quick stop at the greyhound dog track is cool. Lay a dollar down and watch the dogs run you might get lucky.

Thanks Admin for the reply, gotta love the forum, already doing research on the cost difference from other campgrounds compared to FW. Definitely have to stay at FW for a bit anyway. Thanks for all the info- need all the help I can get, Will be the first very long trip for the cat, 30-36 hrs of driving to Florida!! Admin, how do you enjoy your cat, as we have the same unit, pulling with a 2003 F-250 Diesel.

We've enjoyed our cat, just don't get enough time to use it.
Staying at Bryn Mawr first week of june in st augustine. Right on the beach and you can still drive on it, big nice beach.
Make sure you check your valve stems and tires before you take that long trip and don't forget to check your spare. Would be a good Idea to pack your bearings before you hit the road. Safe'r than Sorry as they say.

Click on your profile, go to signature, and enter your model, truck, etc..... that way everyone will know what your talking about when you mention your cat truck or where your from.

We have a few Disney experts here, and hopefully you'll get help from all of them.

Our Central Florida expertise is Disney, and only Disney. In the late 70's and early 80's we did some other attractions, but over the years, it's Disney that has drawn us back. We always stay in Fort Wilderness. In the early 80's we stayed in Camping World campground in Kissimmee, but it is gone. The store is still there. Because we have relatives in Leesburg, we sometimes stay in a campground up there. If we didn't have relatives up that way, we wouldn't stay there. It's about an hour from WDW, and really isn't convenient to the attractions around Orlando. That campground is called Holiday Travel Park. It has pull thrus, has a whole lot of yearly residents and snowbirds. It's sometimes impossible to get a site while the park is full of snowbirds. It's a good overnight, if you can get in. We like that we don't have to drive all day from there to WDW.

I've read that many people stay at Tropical Palms Resort and Campground in Kissimmee when they can't get a Fort Wilderness reservation. The Trailer Life Directory rates it 8.5/8.5/8.5.

If you are planning on staying a month or longer, I know a number of people who rent monthly in the Zephyrhills area during the winter and the rates are a lot cheaper than what you will find in the Orlando/Kissimmee area. It's about a 1 hour drive from Zephyrhills to WDW.
