Slide out accident

Post by wtb1383 on 1/30/2011, 5:43 am

I have a 2008 32QBBS. I accidently left a ladder between the fence and the left slideout and when i ran it out it jammed the forward part of the slideout. There is some bent and dented items but the main problem is that the rear of the slideout is 3 inches further out than the front. It must have skipped a few teeth when it jammed. Anyone know how correct this? The slide still runs in and out fine, its just off a few teeth. Thanks for any help.

I have the hydraulic slide so I don't know how the gear drive version works. I jacked my slide up a couple of inches once to repair the black fabric. I used a small bottle jack and placed a 2x4 on top of the jack to spread out the force of the jack. The slide out needs to be almost out but not all the way out to leave room on the top for it to rise. Maybe you could raise it and bump it over a gear tooth or two.

If you're not comfortable with working on it, take it to the dealer. Here are a few links to info on the slideouts that may be of help to you. Count the teeth on both sides and see if it's the same or not. Also each side has an in and out adjustment and that could of moved. This adjustment allows you to adjust the slide to come in and out straight. Make sure the gear system is ok first before trying to adjust anything.

WTB1383, I feel your pain I did the exact same thing, however I just bent the bottom portioin of the slide out about 3/4 of inch. I then pushed/bending the bottom back in line with the rest of the slide and it's almost perfect.

Live and learn is my motto.

I tried making my own adjustments per the instructions that Earl linked to his reply, but nothing I did seemed to adjust anything. So I took it in and the dealer ended up adjusting it, go figure!

Probably good for nothing...but on my old unit there's a square tube that connects the front and rear set of drive gears. The tube uses a bolt to hold it together with the gears. I sheared the bolt and the front of the slide would go in and jam because the back wouldn't move.

The point of all this? You might be able to pull that bolt out, if you have one, and using a pry bar move the slide the 3" you need, then put the bolt back in.

Same thing happened to me as Cardinal Bill. I sheared the front bolt off and the back of the slide would jam. I was able to just push and pull the slide by hand to re-square and put a new bolt in. I think it seals tighter now than before....

I guess I must be a Portagie because the problem I have with Lippert on slide adjustment is there is enough info to make U dangerous. Take the up and down measurement. What is the final product suppose to look like. Is the back higher then the front or lower or even. That is just one example. help
